New Parrot Mom Here!

Happy Wednesday!

My name is Victoria and I'm from NY. I am a mom to a 17yo boy, Austin, a 7yo mixed breed dog, Lily and a 7yo Umbrella Cockatoo, Snow, who I just adopted a week ago. I've worked with large birds for many years and eventually purchased a white capped pionus, who sadly passed while I was away. Our landlord had an exterminator come to spray our house without my knowledge and she passed shortly after .
We waited 7 years to get another and decided tho adopt rather than buy. We got her from a family that didn't have time to spend with her anymore. We love her to pieces but we are night quite used to some of the cockatoo traits and behaviors, so it is a learning process. I thought this forum would be a great resource and I'm excited to have found it!

Welocme as well, a member almost had the same tragedy but was able to get his bird out and boarded in time. Good you adopted. And yes familiarize yourself with the albums and the control panel to set your avatar and stuff up! Look forward to hearing more.

My condolences for the loss of your pionus; the hazards of pest control can be managed only when informed prior to the event.

Umbrellas are wonderful companions and Snow will test your handling skills! I'll post a few helpful threads, but reading through parts of the cockatoo forum will prove invaluable!
