I just got a great deal on this new parrot, but I cannot identify the type. He does not talk and refuses to step up on to my hand. He does not eat seeds or veggies and seems to only like bones. He must have come from a really bad home because it looks like he has plucked out all of his feathers. I am wondering how long it will take for them to grow back. Do you think he needs a bigger cage.

Just a joke, people, feeling silly this afternoon.

Lol the best bit?
Clarifying you were just having a laugh :D Could of been funny to watch the responses....

Wow, I'm glad you got a bargain, that must be a very rare parrot! While you are converting him to pellets and seed, keep offering his regular diet of bones, maybe a little red meat. There's never a guarantee that any parrot will talk but it never hurts to try, Please be very patient. He's plucked all his feathers, it may take years for them to grow back, if they ever do. With cages, bigger is always better, with such a large bird, I think I'd let him stay out of his cage as often as possible and maybe try harness training.

Best of luck! If you teach him to step up, please share photos, he will look very nice perched on your arm.

Well here at least is one parrot owner who succeeded in get his parrot to stand on his arm. And its feathers seem to be growing back

I wonder if he's related to this rare parrot that flew in through my son's open, screenless window last summer.

(Happy ending...he had a chip and we were able to reunite him with his human. I didn't have a cat carrier to transport him to the vet, so I used what I had, then scrubbed it down and sterilized it like it's never been cleaned before!)
