Went to a wonderful Bonsai garden close to where I live and picked up this wonderful Banyan Fig, her name is "Miffy" she has been around the block a time or two, was purchased by a couple in NY off a bonsai cart in the city, they put her in their foyer with no real light and almost killed her. She was then given to the Bonsai Sanctuary to be brought back to health where she has lived the last 7 years. The bonsai sanctuary is thinking about moving their operation to a warmer climate so some of their larger trees were looking for new homes. She has now moved in with me where she will stay! I love the trunk and the movement of this magnificent tree! I also got a smaller Tiger bark Fig that is smaller that I am looking forward to training.

Miffy is very pretty;) Looks like 'she' has a nice sunny window too.

And who knew there were "bonsai" sanctuaries? I learned something new today:)

Lovely! There's something magic and timeless about those gnarled, twisted fig trees isn't there? Congratulations on acquiring Miffy - may your friendship be a long one! :)

Yes, you really do have to dedicate some time and care, nothing like a houseplant that you can water and forget, the watering, training, fertilizing, re-potting, trimming both canopy and root ball is not something to neglect. She has actually grown a lot of roots and will probably need to be trimmed and re-potted this year a two person job I might add because she is so large.

Thankfully the two types of Fig/Ficus trees that I got are pretty disease and pest resistant which makes it a little easier. I can't wait for it to get warmer here so she can get some outside time. Then the canopy will really fill in. :D
I used to work with all outside/deciduous trees because I loved watching them go through the season changes but I really fell in love with this one.

GASP again!

Miffy is gorgeous!!! :D There is NO doubt that she's found THE best home she could have ever hoped for.

What will you name the Tiger Bark Fig? I think I can see a glimpse of here in the first picture, right on the window sill, to the left of Miffy?

How old would you guess Miffy is? SO stunning!!!

<must now remove the drool off my chin> :32:

Yes, that is the Tiger Bark in the window left of Miffy, I wired that one and did some trimming so that one looks sparse right now but once they both get outside time the canopy will really fill in. Not sure what I will name that one yet...any ideas?
No one is really sure on Miffy's age the sanctuary had her for 7 years, the NY people had her a few years before that. The size of her trunk is impressive but I wouldn't wager a guess on her age.
Driving home with her in the car was a hoot, she barely fit in the back of my HHR and had to be tipped down to clear the hatch door, plus I was driving like a little old lady all the way home so I didn't jostle her around too much. The cars behind me were not amused!:p

Miffy and her new friend are gorgeous!
