Mating Pair Yellow Crown Amazon
:greenyellow:I am the owner of two soul mates for life - Yellow Crown Amazons. I actually inherited these birds with no knowledge of birds. I was always a dog person before. My choice was to take the birds and figure out what I was doing as I did it; or they were going to be killed. Their original owner had passed away, and the husband did not want them and was not going to continue to take care of them.

My knowledge was very little. These birds have been with me for four years, they are young about 7 years old. They were never successful at breading until they lived with me. Now once a year they lay about three eggs and both parents are very good at taking care of their babies. Which is a good thing cause the first year I was freaking out.

I will attach pictures once I figure out how. I am constantly learning.

Hello and welcome. Nice to hear your bird story. Did you keep the babies too? If you go to the forum page in the thread titled technical you should see a posting on how to post pictures on the forum written well by one of our members.

No I did not keep the babies. I was working full time, and had to work if I wanted benefits, so I was not able to raise the babies. I found a exotic bird store that bought them from me and hand feed all their babies. They did very well there. I visited often. They became very social, and were talked to and enjoyed by all working there as well as everyone else that was visiting.

On the last crop this spring, one of the babies actually two of them had splayed legs, so I was not able to sell her at the store. I also retired this year, so I was able to raise her and work with her leg problem. I did consult an avairy vet. Her legs were braced together for several weeks. Her sister's legs corrected themselves. The baby I have now, she still has some of the leg problem but not like it was. She talks, sings, whistles, wants to fly everywhere. Her wings got clipped recently. She is almost six months old now.

I'm concern about keeping her since I have mom and dad. I don't have a big house and mom and dad bird are using my smallest bedroom. Baby is in the living room. I'm afraid she is going to learn to screem like her parents. She does listen for them, likewise, they listen for her. Thanks for asking.:greenyellow:

Lovely story and lucky birds to have ended up with you. Where are you located?

Hi and welcome to the forum, there are a couple of us also owned by YCA's, myself and another member, Lindsey, come to mindm my Joe is also 7 years old and came to me as a recue a couple of months ago, so far he's been a real delight, a great talker and relitively quiet as amazons go, have a look around, get to know other members and enjoy your stay :)
