Hi Bob and welcome to the forum, that would be a red fronted or red crowned kakariki, looks to be a male by the broad head and neck, but hard to say from the pics, nice little birds but can be pretty skittish, you really have to handle them often or they easily revert back to being wild, hope that helps, enjoy your stay :)

Very cute
I have no clue what it might be though sorry
is a front face shot possible ?

Kakariki are protected in nz and you can't own them without specialized licence. But I'm not sure on Aussie laws

Anyways congrats on your fid ( feathered kid ) and welcome to the forum

to our wonderful fun forum
Congrat's on your bird, any idea how old he/she is?
Hopefully you were given instructions about the bird's diet etc very important for the birds health and well being.
Anything further, just ask, many members always available with valuable input
Good luck

Welcome... Beautiful bird.

How did you come by the bird?
Do you know the age and how he was being treated?

A lot of good people here. I am sure you will find all the help you need here.
