Hello all! My name is Chris and I live in Calgary, Alberta. I have been owned by parrots for more than 30 years, and my current flock family of 7 consists of an African Grey, a Blue Fronted Amazon, a Moluccan Cockatoo, 2 male Vos Eclectus (father and son) and a pair of gorgeous Sun Conures. I am strictly a pet owner, not a breeder. I recently lost my sweet little 25 year old rescued Goffin and have hopes of adding another Goffin to my family in the future.

I don't belong to any parrot clubs so I'd like to thank you for allowing me to participate here.

Hi Chris and welcome! I am so glad we now have another seasoned parrot owned member whom we can all pester for advice! Lol. I hope you enjoy your time here with us! You know we are now going to bug you for pictures, right? [emoji4]

Welcome, I'm fairly new as well. I can't wait to see pictures of your flock, how do the two sun conures get along? Are all your birds in separate cages? Robin past almost two weeks ago and it took us 6 days to get another, we were lost without him.

Thanks so much for the welcome, miloslave. I think I will enjoy my time here. I don't have a lot of photos of my babies but I'll post some a bit later. Sadly, I'm still mourning the recent loss of my beautiful little Goffin and seeing photos of him right now just breaks my heart.

Nice to meet you, Robin! Yes, my two conures get on beautifully. Other than the conures, all my birds have their own cages, which they occupy only at night or when I'm not home. When I'm home, they are all uncaged. What is supposed to be a dining room became my bird room when I acquired my first bird, the African Grey, which ended up working out very well. It has a patio door so they can enjoy sunlight, fresh air (when weather allows) and wild bird activity. All their cages are in that room and I put in a wood tree -- really a tree that was cut down for them to climb on and chew. They love it! Over the last ten years, they've begun to move into my living room and I had to put a large spare cage there for them to use as their "resort" spot. Honestly, I have no life (LOL)

Hi Terry57. How nice to see a fellow Canuck here and close to me, too!! Thanks for the welcome and the condolences. This is a very big loss and perhaps, when the time is right, I'll be lucky enough to find another Goffin.

Hi Chris, Welcome to the forum! Glad you joined us! Looking forward to chatting with you and hearing more about your flock.

I'm very sorry for your recent loss.

Welcome, glad to see another long time bird owner here to share the knowledge ;) I need a lot of it, feel free to send some my way. Heartfelt hugs for the loss of your baby, I hope in time another needy babe can join your flock.

Thank you all for such a wonderful and warm welcome, as well as the condolences. I'm having a tough time dealing with this loss but I'm trying to keep busy. I'm happy to pass on whatever I've learned over 30 years, so ask away. During those years, I've also had the pleasure (and headache) of hand-rearing a few baby parrots and even a couple of orphaned, day old baby sparrows! Life in the company of parrots is NEVER dull!

Hi Flboy! It's nice to see even a "displaced" Canuck here! So, I've decided to begin my search for a new Goffin boy to love. Since there don't seem to be many available around here, much less a male, I think I'm going to need all the help I can get from anyone who either lives near me or knows someone who lives nearby. I know I need to be patient but I suspect my search will go on for a long time.

I will talk to the breeders I know. I wouldn't restrict your search to Alberta only however, I've talked to breeders from Vancouver to Ontario. Shipping a bird by air is a surprisingly safe (and non-traumatizing) experience, and generally only costs ~90$+gas to the airport.

Albert in fact came from a breeder in Vancouver, as there are few Poi breeders in Alberta that breed species that aren't Senegals.

I haven't necessarily restricted my search but I would really prefer not to ship, if at all possible. I've found several female Goffins up for sale close to where I live but no males and, so far, I haven't even been able to scare up a single Goffin breeder from anywhere in Canada, much less close to where I live.
