African grey named pepper
Amazon named Rodney
Amazon named lil
Hi, my names Dawn, I've got a 2 year old African grey, pepper, and I've just adopted 2 amazons Rodney and lill, I think they might be about 10 years old. I'm just looking for a bit of advice about the amazons. Rodney keeps attacking lill and he's plucked some feathers from her head. Why is he doing this and what can I do about it. Any advice would be gratefull. The amazons are outside in an aviary. Peppers inside with us.Thanks.

Hello, welcome to the forums. Congrats on a new addition to your flock.

Welcome to the forum, Dawn. :)

Please give us a bit more information on the Amazons. Are they housed in the same cage? How big is the cage? What type of Amazons are they?

You may have to separate them. The more info you can provide the better. Pictures are also quite helpful. :)

Hi, the aviary has an inside living part which they share together its about 3ft x2ft, and the outside is 5ft x 4ft. I've just adopted them about two weeks ago, and they shared a cage but it was a small cage made for one. I think it's been a shock for them because they haven't seen daylight for years as there was cardboard at the window where they lived and they didn't have any toys or anything in their cage just two perches. I think they've been together for a couple of years though. They seem to be settling in and are exploring their new surrounding and toys. But the last couple of days Rodney has been pulling lills feathers out from her head. Any advice would be appreciated. They're like the one on your pic with a yellow face. I'll try and put some pics on tomorrow. Thank you

Double Yellow Headed Amazons? If you plan to keep them in one cage, you need a HUGE cage, I'd say NO smaller than 4' long X 3' deep. But if you see aggression, I would separate them to avoid injuries. :) Are they banded? If so, close banded or open banded? Do you know anything else about them?

What your describing is a perfect case of incompatible mates, as in male/female breeding pairs. The male is the aggressor as the "female" is unwilling. You have or may not have a male/female pair ,but it sounds like they are and the female is either too young or not willing. Do they have a nestbox? if they do it might help to remove it but that's no guarantee.I doubt a larger cage will fix it . What are your goals for these birds? That would determine what advice i'd give.
