Had a Sun Conure
Hi, my sweatheart Wally died a few days ago in a trajic accident. I getting ready for bed and was letting him out of his cage for the night. I let him fly around free in the closed off kitchen at night while I sleep on the nights I dont feel like letting him sleep with me, which he would do any chance he could get. The other night when I opened his cage, he was half asleep and digging into his food bowl. I walked out of the kitchen, closed the door behind me and heard a noise and a squak. Wally for the first time actually tried to fly though the closing door after my shoulder and by some horrible twist of bad luck got caught between the door and the frame crushing his mid chest and back. I picked him up very quickly, kissed and and watched in utter pain and horror as he stared at me breathing very deeply and shortly there after died right then and there in my hands. I still feel very sad and guilty about it. I loved him so very much and I miss him dearly.

I have another post in the conure section asking about suggestions about other breeds cause I know by the time another baby is born, raised and weened I should be ready by then for another companion bird in my home. I just don't know for sure if getting another Sun conure would be too bitter sweet or not.

Here's a few pics of my Wally

welcome to the forum, an what a horrible thing to happen, i don't kbnow what breed to suggest, sennies are wonderfull, but can get really bad terrible 2's lol

So sorry about Wally, thats a terrible thing to happen. When getting another bird, think of what qualities you loved about Wally & things you didn't like so much. If you love a cuddley bird, maybe another sun would be just the thing. Welcome to the forum & good luck.

Thank you all very much. I have been suggested a blue capped conure and a mitred conure. I'm considering both. I would rather a bird that's more cuddly, laughing and playful like Wally was

Get a caique. :) Then I would be jealous. ;) Sorry for the loss of your fid.

Im so sorry for your loss. It is truly heartbreaking to lose a companion. My first parrot was a sun conure and I loved him so much. After he died, I new I wanted another bird but it took me a few years to talk my heart into it. I first looked at suns but couldn't do it. I found a bird that needed me as much as I needed him and my flock grew from there.

Blue capped conures are such clowns :)
