GreenWing Macaw

Red factor Green cheek Conure
Hi folks my names Marshall im 25 and live in Massachusetts. Me and my girlfriend have our own birds. She has a red factor green cheek conure and i have a greenwing macaw. We recently just got "tiny" our greenwing from someone who had to rehome him he is 8 months old and a big baby he will lick my fingers and all but he will not step up yet im guessing because hes not familiar with his settings or me yet. i have been clicker training a bit but he does not seem to pick up or be interested as much as id hoped.

Im guessing in the weeks months years to come he will eventually step up and realize theres a 6ft tall java tree and a boing rope toy upstairs waiting for him haha

the conure is just a baby and ver cuddly no biting or nothing anyway thats my introduction i look forward to the knowledge i will gain from these forums.

I haven't seen anyone do clicker training on birds yet. I know you use it on dogs, I bought one for my dogs. Entice him with treats, mine doesn't step up, he steps back. I go under towards the back and he steps back. That's how he was trained to begin with from the previous owner. Welcome to the forum, im pretty new here myself. But I've owned birds for the past 14 years.

i know i can get him to lick my fingers and i can scratch his beak a bit, but i cant touch his feathers or get him to step up yet i think it will just take time i dont see the clicker training working to great atm he just knows what target is and goes and tries to bite the chop stick he has never really bitten me either just hard pinches which i tell him no and try not to pull back or be afraid but a greenwings beak is not small haha

He there Marshall and welcome to our fantastic forum. We have many bird lovers with lots of knowledge of their care. We are here to help and hope all goes well for you and your fids.

No they're not small, bigger then my macaw!!! Those beak can do some damage. There was a lady trying to get me to take her catalina macaw. I told her no, as beautiful as they are. One macaw is all I can handle I think. I can handle 2 Cockatoos over two macaws....
