New macaw joining the forum

Hello all,

Just posted our introduction thread, but thought I would post here as well. My family and I recently added a flame macaw to our family. This is our only fid, but my wife and I both have experiencing with owning and raising birds. Bongo is 9 weeks old and has been with us for two weeks. He is gaining weight daily and the hand feeding is going very well.

Yesterday I crafted Bongo's first perch out of sandblasted grapevine and so far he appears to be loving it. The perch is stable, roughly 30" in total lenght, and has a variety of shapes and textures to help counter the flat bottom of his brooder.

His cage is bleached, dried and ready, but I think we will wait another week or two befre introducing him to it. I look forward to sharing in this journey and learning from you all.

As for the grapevine, it is marketed by ZooMed and will usually be found in the reptile section of your big-box pet store, petsupermarket, pet smart, etc... They are usually small and overly intricate, but I was fortunate to find a large one with a descent girth. I made a few cuts and modifications to ensure its stability. I will post a picture of it tomorrow.

Bongo has spent the better part of the day on it and I can honestly say being out of the brooder all day has really brought his personality out.

Oh don't I know it !! I couldnt believe how attached I was to my babies , lol.
