So...I finally got my dream bird. I brought Twister, a 10 week handfed violet male IRN home 3 days ago. He seems scared to death. He is so quiet. I finally heard a little noise from him today (day 3). I also have a 1yr old green cheek conure. The IRN wants to attack him. So anyway, he is eating, drinking, and pooping fine....he just seems unhappy. He doesnt really play or make noise...he just sits on one of his perches and grooms, or looks around or sleeps. He lets me take him out of the cage, and he will sit on my shoulder too...and at night he hides somewhere on me while we watch tv.
Do you think he will settle in and be happy eventually? I can only compare him to my green cheek, who was a clown from the moment i brought him home.

Our IRN was a few years old when we got him, not hand reared and very scared. Took me two weeks to get him to settle even in his cage with my hand there. Now although he's not cuddly, and I can't pet him, he will hop on my arm or fly to me for treats. He's quite the character.

I think yours will just need some time. In a few weeks you'll be thinking where's the quiet one gone... lol

I think he'll get better soon. Some birds take lot of time to adjust and other adjust withing days, but eventually he'll be alright.

Remember that, at only 10 weeks, he is a baby still and will sleep a lot, and be quieter than he might be down the road...he needs his energy for all the growing he is doing!

Pippin was 8 weeks when I got him (yes, too early, I had been told 10 weeks but later found out his hatch date which made him younger! UGH) and is almost 6 months now. He was very quite and slept quite a bit, esp. after eating. He is getting more chatty, has learned to play, and is developing a fun personality more and more as each day passes.
