Khoa- Albino Indian Ringneck
Hey everyone! New member to the forum here. I just recently purchased a (roughly) 8 month old IRN! I've done a lot of research, but I have just a couple questions regarding some information I wasn't able to really find.

I'm an experienced owner of all sorts of pets, and I know they all need time to acclimate to their new environment. Roughly, how long would you say it takes for an IRN to really get used to the environment change before you can begin handling training? So far, I've only been speaking in a soft, calm voice to Khoa, and not really trying to touch just yet. It has been just under a week right now, for the record.

Second question is probably related to the first. I purchased Khoa from a local exotic petstore that I have been going to since I was about 2 years old. Went with my parents back then, of course! In any case, when I picked out Khoa, she/he seemed incredibly friendly. Stepped up onto my finger without hesitation, and rode around on my shoulder for the better part of half an hour. Since coming home, Khoa has actively shimmied/climbed/scooted and just about everything possible to get away from my hand when I only reach in to feed and change the water. Is this also because of the change in environment, do you think?

Thanks very much for taking the time to read this!

Also, in case anyone was wondering about the name. I have a...bit of a thing for naming pets after cheese. Don't ask why- I just love cheese! Khoa is a type of white cheese from India, and my Indian Ringneck also happens to be white! Albino, technically. So, there you have it! Thought the name sounded pleasing to the ear and the cheese part was an added bonus! :09:

Not the best, but here is a picture of Khoa!

Hello and welcome to the forum:)

Khoa is adorable.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things.

He is probably just trying to get used to his new environment. Give him a couple of weeks and I am sure he will be fine with you again.

Thanks very much! I'll be waiting eagerly and patiently for Khoa to adjust!

He looks sweet...give him time and I am sure he will grow to love you!

so Cute! I would carry on with what you are doing for the next three days try offering her some treats from your hand and see if she will take Them. once the three days are up see if she will come to you if not continue with the talking thing until she does from what you said about her being so friendly at the shop it shouldn't take her long to bond with you. :)
