Indian Ringneck
Hello All,

I just brought home a pair of Indian ringneck parrot few days ago.

The female is dominant and most of the time doesn't allow the male to share the food. And bites her. Is this normal ?

Secondly, they both are scarred when I approach the cage and when I take them in hand they bite and try to flee away from me.

Ofocourse, I make it a pont to keep them outside the cage for hours....

Pls. advise and comment.

Ty

Welcome to the forum. It will take your new birds several weeks or possibly even longer to get used to you and their new home. Just being near their cage and offering them treats through the cage bars will help. Although they may become friendly, they may not let you handle them because they are probably already bonded.....bonded birds are usually more interested in being with each other than being with you.....

Good luck.....

Since couple of days I placed their cage on good height so that they feel more safe and observe our daily routine. However I found them little active and not making noise.
Are they ill or dull? Or they are more comfortable.

Pls. comment?

While I cannot observe the birds, it just sounds like they are still in the process of getting used to you and their new home, just be patient, they will become more active.....

Unlike other pets, birds do not run up to you begging for attention after some foo or a scratch behind the ears. Parrots will study and learn about you before accepting you, much like a man studies another man before accepting him as a friend.....

How old are the birds? What were you told about them? Are they a bonded pair? Are they babies? Keep an eye on the male if the female is not allowing him to eat. You may have to put him in a separate cage if he is not being allowed to the food.

Congrats on your new birds!
