hi guys and gals thanks for the welcome .and yes i have given him a name it was a toss up between Nemo,Rocky and Rex but rex is his name named after rex the dinosaur on toy story 3 mainly because of his colour .i have 1 question though about 10 mins ago he was sitting on my lounge with me and shaking his tail side to side he did it a couple times then let out a big poo well not nothing out of the ordinary anyway .

but i thought he might have been constipated .?

his diet is fresh peas, corn carrot and hes been eating tropi mix edible blend of fruits nuts and legumes he has like 3 food bowles in his cage 1 for vegies the other 2 for the tropi mix and also he was eating mixed pelet food when i bought him so another bowl of the same food the breeder was feeding him

. does anyone see anything wrong with this so far?

.i take the vegies and fruit out nightly before i go to bed aswell

F & V are a really important part of the diet, sprouted seeds are great too. When a bird poos they usally back up and lift thier tails before going. It sounds like your eckie is pretty normal to me. We use these signs to help "potty train" if you want to go down that path.

I love the name Rex (& loved TS 3)

thanks mel for the reply im slowly trying to toilet him . hes so smart already hes learning to ring the little bell inside his cage when he wants to come out i say to him ring the bell and he does it . hes got lots of toys and cheeable safe objects in his cage aswell

Welcome Anthony and welcome Rex! This is a great community.

Rex is beautiful!

Curious, does Rex poop anywhere? My Ekkie ONLY likes to go on his stands and in his cage (I did not teach him this). He usually lets out a big bomb when he goes back to his cage after being out. Maybe Rex was holding it in and felt comfortable to go on the couch? Anyway, as long as he is going, then not too much to worry about.

The diet sounds great, your doing the right thing with all the nutritious food. Keep it up!;)

I would say that is definitely spam. This is a good forum with good moderation and admin, you will know when something is legit;)

Welcome to the forum! Rex is a very handsome boy. Ekkie's are at the top of my "would love to have" list of parrots...but my parrot max has been met.

Some birds are...fastidious...and more or less inately potty trained, some aren't and never will be, most are somewhere in the middle and can be taught.

Congratulations on the new addition. He's years of love and companionship.

Hi MP and Rex Happy to have you both on board with us. Male and Female Eckies are so beautiful. I did not realize they have hair on their head instead of feathers until I was with a pair at my bird club meeting. They were the most loving of all the birds there to us people. And they were for adoption. Wish I had room. As far as potty training if you can get him to the camode the first thing in the morning before he has dropped the bomb then he will get the idea this is where I should go. I just raise the seat and put Rosie on the rim and she understands what that means. Have fun and stay in touch.

Welcome to the forum Majorparrot! Rex is GEORGOUS. I love the name too, toy story is an awesome movie!
An Ekkie will be my next parrot....Many years from now lol!

Welcome Anthony and Rex! Great forum here! I absolutely love Rex's stunning color. And yeah, you're doing really well with his diet, keep it up! Ekkies have the most complicated diets compared to other birds (with an exception of the hyacinth macaw). Just be sure to feed it lots of fruits and veggies daily! If you ever need anything, don't be afraid to ask! We love questions :D It's what we're here for! And stories too! Good luck!
