I'm looking to get another Parrot...I have a little female Senegal she is a sweetie her name is cuddles ..
I have been doing alot of searching and reading ,for I don't want to get a parrot just to get another one....
I am looking for a bigger Parrot then my Senegal but am having a hard time deciding...I do like the Eclectus and many others, I know some require more attention then others .....Some are nosier...etc...

One thing I heard is that a female parrot bonds better with a male and the other way around, My Senegale is a female and she's bonded to me....Also is male parrots better then females.....
You hear so many different stories ....I really think it's has to do with the parrot and how you are wih them....Who know I just have the one.....

Today I'm going to look at a baby handfed Male blue Ringneck.....He's a beauty..
I fine he's about the same size as my Senegal just with a longer tail....
I don't want to be to quick here... I want to take my time to just get the
right parrot...
Hope to heard from someone with a little help....

Welcome to the forum. You should be able to find good info here.

In my opinion most of the sex differences that people talk about in pet parrots is largely overstated. Individual differences usually outweigh any sex difference. However it can be a factor between birds of the same species. Since you are not looking for another senegal I don't think sex is a significant concern. However I welcome any of the more experienced bird owners chiming in to correct me as my first hand experience is with only one bird.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, I agree with AD, I think that the difference is in the individual parrot and not specifically the sex of that parrot. This is why it is important to make sure that you allow yourself to be "picked" by the parrot that you eventually take home. Parrots seem to have a sixth sense in knowing who they want to be with ...My Sun Conure picked me and our Green-Cheek Conure picked my fiancee ... to this day my Sun loves to hang out with me and finds my fiancee a suitable alternative should I not be around and our Green-Cheek is exactly the other way around.

I would suggest this, go to a place where there are multiple birds of the breed that you ultimately want to purchase and see which individual bird velcros itself to the side of your face because THAT is the one that you want to bring home with you.

Important reminder: This information is strictly for picking out a new parrot ... Myself, AD and other members of this forum can also great advice on how to introduce that new parrot to your current one after the appropriate quarantine period.

If you were to get another senegal then I would say get the same sex but since your not then the sex of a bird is not that big of a deal.

There are some stereo types of male/female of certain species, and while this can be true, I think what is more important is that the bird picks you if that is possible.

Have you thought about looking into parrot rescues?

Rescues usually have quite a few different types of birds and you can learn a lot about them in person with experienced people.

Just a thought :)

Thanks ...Rockinseattle...I did think of that yes ..There is a few places here one called Greyheaven...They have some parrot ,I think thats a great idea..I'm just a little worried for some, most really have had such hard lifes,I'm not really that experiences..I just have my little Senegal.....
I just don't know which breed of parrot to pick...
I thought about a Eclectus.....I've noticed when you look on these sites to get some information on different parrots from the breeders they all mostly say good things about the parrots they are selling...
Which is fine but you also need to no about the not so good things...
Thanks for the help..:)
