Hi everyone, I´m new here and just thought i´d say hi. I´ve had birds in the past (mostly hand rared budgies) and now that i´ve moved to Spain my fiance and I are looking to have a nice little addition to the family when our house is built.

We are not sure whether to get a baby lovebird or a monk (quaker) parakeet.

Looking forward to sharing stories with you all,

Take care

Sarah. :rainbow1:

Thanks, could you help me? We are looking for an addition to our family - we both like lovebirds and the quaker parrot.

We know a person who sells both as babies.

We work 7-2 monday to friday.

Welcome, Sarah!!

I had the same dilemma, couldn't decide between a lovebird and a cockatiel. I love them both, but didn't know which one would be right for me.
I read a lot of different care sites for both species, and watched a lot of videos on YouTube to see how they act, how they sound, how they play, etc. Ultimately, it was seeing them in person, side by side at a pet shop that helped me make up my mind.
Although I still love the look and the playfulness of the cockatiels, it was a slightly bigger bird than I wanted to deal with initially.

I hope you find whatever information you need to decide!

Lucky you. and welcome to the forum. I say lucky because hubby and I spent two weeks in Nerjca for our thirtieth wedding anniversary. 18 years ago we toured that area and Rhonda and the Alhambra . They have some of the most spectacular secenary. and also some of the smaller cities. Hubby and I were just watching the videos that we took a couple of days ago. For us it was a trip of a lifetime. We stayed right on the coast i n nerjca then took a couple of over night trips. and spent a day on the rock of Gibralter and another with a day trip to Africa. By the way that is also the reason I have a Spanish Timbrado Canary. I loved the sound when we would walk into town and most houses seem to have a canary in a cage, A pot of red geraniams. and a black wrought iron railing, against the whitewashed house.. Meant to post yesterday than got tied up.:)

Welcome. I'm sure you'll come across many a topic to help make your decision easier.

Perhaps, you might also consider an Eclectus? :p

Hi my fiance is from here we are in a small town next to Vélez Málaga and 20 minutes from Nerja. I've been coming to Mallorca and the Costa Blanca for a long time too.

This is one of the nicest places I've lived too.

Thanks for the warm welcome

Theres lots of Scottish connections throughout the world, we made a huge influence hahaha. You should visit I highly recommend it. Scotland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, amazing food, culture, scenery, cities, natural beauty, Scottish hospitality. Truly unique.

That's my dream to go there one day, very proud of where family came from!

I have just adopted a 9 month old quaker parrot that my fiance bought as a baby and rared for my father in law. Now he doesn't play with him and they have him kept outside in a cage which is cruel is my opinion. My mother in law only feeds him but his water and cage is dirty so we decided to well sort of rescue the poor baby. I don't understand some people but he will be loved and played with by us. He has been quite scared and now he is affectionate and tame with us. Only problem is he sleeps clinging to the sides of his cage.

We are going to take him away from here once our house is built but he is now kept in the office and interacted with daily by my fiance and I. We both have lots of experiences with birds.

Mirlito, welcome to PF!

Birds are often misunderstood, so do not worry! At least the little quaker is young!

As for clinging to the cage sides, you might try placing some perches up higher or near where he/she sleeps at night. It's honestly not a big concern if a bird sleeps on a perch or clinging to/hanging from the cage bars. Their feet lock in place while they are sleeping, so they shouldn't fall from their roosting spot. If you think about birds in the wild and having to contend with a moving branch at night due to wind, it makes sense that their feet would hold them still. :)

What a kind heart you have, and what a cruel situation you have rescued your wee feathered friend from. Good on you!

Hey thanks guys :green1:

I was raised with cockatiels and budgies as a child and always around birds in general. They are my favourite and I love them to bits!

We are looking after Kiko (the quaker) for a short time though we have managed to persuade my in laws to play with him as he is really "bonded" with my mother in law (who raised him by hand).

We are currently in the process of buying a baby lovebird from a local breeder and afterwards either a Senegal or conure. I love both but I´m looking some someone cuddly, and who loves kisses and lots of affection and who will bond with the both of us.

hi mirlito i also am from scotland and new here so we got allot in common right now lol and personally i would go with the love bird.
