I have four birds and just got new wood furniture today. They stay in the room with the new furniture and I've had the windows open for a while now to air it out. I am afraid the fumes from the furniture will kill the birds. It says it was made with non-toxic pva glue and that since its solid wood there is no formaldehyde emission. Does anyone know if I need to keep my birds out of the room and if so for how long?

If you can smell it, whether or not it's supposed to be non toxic, I personally would err on side of caution and move them out until you cant smell it anymore.

bill_e provided excellent points regarding err on the side of safety.
Hardwood finishes can cause problems, so assure that the room is well vented. If we are talking about a desk or a table the length of time will be shorter than if there are fabrics attached to the wood.

I agree totally, if you can smell it, then it's probably not a good idea to keep your birds in the house until you can't smell it anymore...

I got a new dining room table just last Thursday. It's all wood, the chairs have fabric cushions. But even "wood" furniture these days has glue and a certain "smell" right after it's been unwrapped. We had the birds out and about. The smell, faint to begin with, completely went away by end of weekend, and wasn't terribly strong to begin with. We also have an air filter in the same room too, though that's more used during cooking. If it smelled like some of the furniture smells I can recall, they'd've been relocated upstairs.

I assume you are talking about the Parrots. Please remember that heat rises and that whatever is in the air rises with it. The highest levels of contamination can be in the upper levels. Time and volume play a major part.
