- I have an orange wing amazon named Darwin. He's 31 and awesome.
Aloha,
I just want to introduce myself. I live in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii with my husband and two sons. We have quite a few pets who are all special in there own way. Darwin is my orange wing amazon. I've only had him for a year. A friend of a friend gave him to me when his girlfriend, (soon to be wife) said she didn't like him. He had been calling him Fruitloop, but he just seemed too intelligent for that name. So, we've named him Darwin. I traced his open band and found that he was smuggled into Florida as a baby, (the man who smuggled him went to prison for smuggling birds, yea!). I'm not sure how many owners he has had, but I know that I'm at least the 3rd. He's missing a toe, so I don't know if that happened when he was smuggled or if he was born that way. He stays too thin, even though I feed him extremely well. I cook for him and he gets fresh and dry food every day. He also goes to my school with me every day. The kids love him. What's truly amazing is that he has bonded with me and is as crazy about me as I am him. So, his life must have been fairly good for him to be able to bond so quickly and deeply. I can't begin to even say how awesome he is and how much I love him. I had a sun conure before (Kili, who's now with my teaching partner, so I see him every day), but Darwin is even more special to me. Guess that's all for now.
