Green Wing Macaw - Daisy, B&G - Paco, Goffin - Ubu
My wife and I have been working with our local Humane Society to take in abused birds. Mostly Cockatiels and Parrakeets but have now taken in a Green Wing Macaw. We were a bit nervous at first but it has turned out pretty well so far.
Daisy May is 14 years old and has lived the last 5 years of her life in a dog crate. She has plucked all of the feathers off of her chest, back, and some on her wings. She has her tail feathers still but they are in rough shape. She isn't able to fly and I don't think that she is able to fully open her wings. She can raise them up but I have never seen them open all of the way. But in spite of all that she has been through she is amazingly loving and gently. Of course she doesn't have a problem letting me know when she isn't happy.
Our plan now is to spoil the hell out of her and give her the life that she deserves. We have come to these forums in the past few weeks looking for pointers and ideas from the forums and have now decided to join you all. We mayhave questions from time to time while we do out best to get her stronger and fit and look forward to talking with you all. I have attached a couple pictures of our beautiful little girl.

Welcome
Congrats with your beautiful bird
Love the name Daisy May
How could someone keep her in a dog crate I will never understand
I am sure she thinks she is in heaven now

Aww that poor baby, she looks so sweet! It amazes me how people could do such a thing, lucky there are amazing people around like yourself that are willing to try and fix other peoples screw ups!

Oh and i look forward to seeing updates!!

Daisy May's story brought tears to my eyes :( How can people be so cruel!

I'm sure she will be very happy with you. With all the love and spoiling she's bound to get now, she will hopefully put the awful 5 years behind her.

Welcome to the forum!

Poor baby......Thank you for doing what your doing, I have a soft spot for abused and plucked birds.....Welcome to the forum!!!!!

Welcome!
So thrilled you are giving Daisy May a home and a chance to have a wonderful life. You are doing a fantastic thing, and I know she is going to pay that back to you tenfold as you watch her come alive again. I also am looking forward to watching and hearing about your journey together.

Hi, congrats on your beautiful new addition :)
I'm amazed she's doing so well, for a bird who has been so badly neglected. I've known cockatoos who have chewed limbs off from boredom.

Thanks for adopting her. She is beautiful

Good for you for taking her in. She might not be physically perfect but she can fill your heart with joy no matter how many feathers she has. Enjoy her!
