Hey everyone,

I'm getting a computer today. Yay! Now I just have to convince my parents to step into the new millenium and get internet. Once this is accomplished, I promise lot's & lot's of pics & vids.

What kind of computer are you getting? Building your own?
Just a word to the wise, don't buy it at Walmart, they have rotten PC's!

My Mother bought a pc from K-mart ( I think thats the same as Wal-Mart in the USA) coz she assumed they were all the same.
bad move.

Ugh yah..
I usually buy all the parts online as cheap as I can and just build it myself.. Very smart move.. not so smart when you use your student loan money and end up building a $1500 system. Fun though :D

Building a PC is very easy, and a lot less expensive ... the only problem I have is that I can't buy Mac parts and build a Mac ... and I am kinda a Mac snob ...

Eeeeew.. a Mac? Like, one of those little tiny ones, with green text and no other color, from second grade?
I've never owned one, I like gaming too much.

macs are good for the artsy fartsy people... and tex is "artsy" with his camera, and as for the fartsy... well I can smell him from here LOL

You hit the nail on the head with that one....it makes me wonder if living with all males is like this or if I got a defective one. :D

Macs are fun computers... bright and shiny and easy. We both use them here, laptops. I recommend them.

My first one was Blue ... and I still have it somewhere ...

But I am talking about Macs, the machines that ADOBE DESIGNED PHOTOSHOP TO RUN ON NATIVELY ... I am talking about Macs: graphic design, video editing and print layout MASTERS ... you gamers can have your little PC's, but now that Macs have dual Intel chips we will be gaming with you in no time ...

P.S. I am not defective - just gassy!

thats cuz macs aren't meant to take apart, like PC's are. I like PC's. I hate Macs. Though i like the little i book laptop computer things. They have them at school. I only like macs at school better because they use ancient dell computers.

My dad is a computer repairman guy and he says that macs are ten times harder to fix, actually pcs are way easier, to take apart and and stuff. Even i know how to do it.

I like the new macs though, but still wouldn't get one.

PC POWER!

Macs are harder to take apart becuase apple doesn't want every "tom, dick and harry" working on them. The programming is also more advanced because all the programming is closed so that they are significantly less endangered by virus and "unwanted visitors"
much more secure system to operate on ... and because mac's have fewer programs running on them than any windows machine they are much more stable during operation of programs ... BUT when they DO CRASH, it's usually very very catastrophic!

I haven't done much with macs or looked on the inside of them so I can't really comment on one being superior to the other. I think they probably both have good points:)
I was looking into getting one when I was learning about computer animation because macs used to be the definite way to go with that.
Luckily I found some programs to try for the PC and there are even better ones out there now. At any rate, I'm a total geek and need my games.
Hey Tex, my name is not tom, dick or harry, It's Sarah! :p
I'm pretty good with mine, takes a bit of tweaking and getting rid of certain windows things but you can have a PC that doesn't crash very often. (mine only crashes every 10 minutes) :D
I absolutely hate Microsoft.. I try to use as few Microsoft programs as possible, aside from windows.
I apologize to my xbox 360 for that comment, you are beautiful & I love you :D

Well I am anti-Wal Mart so no worries about me getting a comp. there. I ended up with an HP laptop. It's fun. I don't really care about games & all that 'artsy fartsy' stuff. I just want something that I can do my hw & research on. Plus the occasional song download & IM.

It's fun and it's tiny. Most importantly though, it's pretty light. That way I won't break my back lugging it around all day. Only 4 lbs!

I dl'd all my pics to it, so now I just need internet!

**If anyone is confused as to how I can be on PF but not have internet, I am at work. Can't post pics from here though b/c it's not allowed**

Nicole I can so feel your excitement in my bones! My parents bought my laptop just over a year ago and its made my life so much easier and more organised!

Christey - Its either all of them, a good number of them, or we both got defective versions of them :)

Congrats on the laptop! They are great. I look forward to seeing your pictures :)

NZ - well, I feel better to have company. I guess it is a good number of them. :D

What model did you get? I just got an HP laptop earlier this year, I like it a lot for the most part...occasionally crashes, but I can deal with that.

And Christy and NZ, mine is defective as well...so I'm thinking it's the majority if not all...is there like a refund or something?

Minzer,

It's the tx1000z series. It's small. The screen is 12.1", and weighs 4 lbs. I can also flip the whole screen around 180 degrees. I'm psyched about that b/c it'll make watching movies during long car rides a lot easier. It also had the option of making it into a touchscreen, but I decided not to b/c I would probably never use it.

NZ, that would be GREAT if we were allowed two! Let me know if you find that in writing somewhere. :D

Nicole, that's tiny! It must be nice, like you said, to have such a lightweight computer. Mine isn't that fancy, but my main focus was gaming (I mean, um, schoolwork)...I have the dv6000, with a 15" screen...no swiveling though...
