Just picked up some new cages, i am absolutely in love, they are going to make my life SOOO much easier and less cluttered, they aren't set up yet, I'm working on that now, and they will still need the sides cut to add nest boxes but they are really nice. I think it's kind of weird that they make breeder cages without nest doors in the side, do they expect people to cut them or put the boxes inside the cage? I'm going to be cutting them, I don't like having nests in the cage, it's just too much of a hassle and mess IMO. But here they are, what do you think?

Got the same ones !! Does the cage door have a piece that you have to bend to open it ? And a slide out pan with a mesh guard that swings closed when you pull the bottom pan out ? I know what you mean by having to cut the side for the nest boxes , I had to do the same thing but it works out nice. I need a stool to get to the top ones though , lolol.
Have fun fixing them up :) That part is always fun .

Nice set-up. Does seem odd that there aren't doorways in sides for nest boxes.

u don't have to cut them u can use the extra door on the front to put the box on. Mine have nest box doors that open or close with a spring. I loved them for the lovebirds but i can't use them anymore because they r too small. I wish I knew u were looking for some, I need to sell mine. I loveed that mine have the doors on them like they do, but I would put the box on the front, EZ to get too and no need to cut that way u can take the boxes down because they should not have a box all the time. if u cut the cage what r u going to do with the big hole?

By extra door on the front, do you mean put one of the dish's in the center door and then the box on one of the side(but still front) doors? I didn't even think about that until you said something, I honestly didn't even notice that the bowls would fit in that center door lol. That probably didn't make much sense to anyone that doesn't have cages like this since the pics are so bad.

Actually, I just checked, the dishes wont fit in the center door, so the only extra door to put the box would be on that middle door, but if there is a nest box there, it would be pretty much impossible to get in the cage without removing the nest. It's really not a big deal to cut them, I've done it with other cages, you just either make a door to go over the hole, or just leave the nest box on but block it off so they can't use it.

If you have other animals is the cage that is the lowest safe?

I usually save the piece I cut , then I can always tie wrap it back on ,, or I just block the nest hole up , a piece of strong plastic cut to size will work or even cardboard.
I normally dont keep the pair in the breeder cages when not breeding too.
They go back into the big cage with the rest of the clan. And I dont use the lower cages , just because they are too low and drafty , and I would think the lower ones would be to "busy" for a pair to set up shop so to speak.
You could get another stand to put the bottom cages on and then put shelves on the lower parts for storage. It gets full of seed hulls , but its still good to keep containers of seed and things that are closed tightly.

Well, those will be a great space saver. I actually thought about a 2 story cage when I added Merlin after her previous owners showed me theirs. I admit, I'm going to have to do more rearranging when it comes time to put the AC back in the window. Maybe I should have made that investment. King's has a pretty nice one on clearance. As it is, I think I'm going to have to make a little platform and move Pete so that he is partly on the hearth for the wood burning stove. Either that or I will need to rearrange this entire room. I was used to keeping Pete's cage next to the stove in summer and in front of the window in winter.

Let us know how you like them once you begin using them.

@luvmytooo, I don't think they are exactly the same as your's they don't have that tray thing you were talking about. I'm still really happy with them, I bought them used but 3 of the cages have never been used and the one that has looks as good as the other 3. I love buying things off of people that actually take care of their things, I couldn't believe how nice they were when we picked them up :)

I wasn't too thrilled about the height of the bottom one either, but the breeders are in their own room so the only real traffic is when I go in to feed/water/check on them, actually, if you look in the background of the first picture, you can see part of the room and you can see that there is a heater on the floor, so I'm not worried about drafts, the temp is pretty even in there and there are no windows.

I keep staring at these cages trying to motivate myself to set them up, I pulled the two budgie babies last night and put them in their brooder, I'm not going to lie, I got 2 hours of sleep last night because I couldn't stop checking their thermometers(there are 3 of them just to be safe lol). But I need to get my sleep deprived butt into gear and get these cages all set up now :p

Aww, you poor thing , you have to make it a point to get a good night sleep soon or else you wont be any good to anybody :)
The room looks really nice. I'm sure you will have it set up perfectly.
You will have those cages filled in no time , then the sleepness nights begin again !
