Hi everyone,
I bought 2 lovebirds for my wife for Christmas and have some questions. I've read a book and still haven't figured everything out. I believe the the two birds are less than a year old, thats what I was told. They were given to me with seed mix and they like it so I think it's safe to say that they have never been hand fed. We've had the two for about 2 weeks now and they still are deathly afraid of hands. I know they need time to adjust and they do let me get close to the cage without freaking out but as soon as they see hands they flip out for the other side of the cage. I need help with where to start training. I have put grapes and other fruit in with them and they aren't interested. I don't know what to try for treats. I would also like to try clipping heir wings but there isn't any known avian vet near me. I live in a very rural area and there aren't many vets near me. Does anyone do it themselves?

Many thanks to any help, I would love to at least be able to handle these cool little guys!!:green1::greenyellow:

I have only one very sweet lovie, and she wasn't tame at all when I got her. I dunno exactly how to tame a couple, but with mine I left the cage door open, sat on the floor with my computer (playing lovebird songs on youtube) and let her explore. I put a spray millet right next to my hand, and let her find it - then I made her step up on my hand in order to get the millet. :) She wasn't clipped, but could hardly fly because she was overweight of being kept in cage all the time. I had to clip her once, and it was very easy (I clip all my birds if needed). Now she is fully flighted and tame. She is still a bit afraid of my hands (I think its natural for birds), but she steps up very well and loves to sit on me and my hubby.
