White Belly Caique
Well this time I’m cutting this real short because like an idiot I lost 2 memo’s so far because my iPad shut off on me!!! Whaaaaa!!!
I started out with 2 parakeets and then later bought a Caique. I have 3 dogs and 3 birds. I bought the parakeets at a pet store, then realized I should have done more research and got a tame bird (or birds). That’s why I got the caique, I did more research. I was determined to get it right this time. I raised 2 boys and they moved out, out of the state. My youngest one lived in Vermont and he recently passed away. It was the last day of April of 2013. The worst day of my life.
So I think I’m always trying to fill that void. I also live with chronic pain everyday. I don’t work. I can’t work. It started with my back (spine) I had surgery twice. Four years apart. My whole spine is messed up along with everything else. Feet, knee’s, arms, hands, neck, head! Arthritis all over. And I have a severe case of fibromyalgia. When I got my first two birds (parakeets) they made me feel better, kept my mind off my pain. Then when I got the caique It really took my mind off my pain. At first. Until I realized how busy they kept me. I’m a clean freak and so I’m constantly cleaning my floors and the cages. I used to get rid of the caique’s poops by wrapping it up real good and throwing it in the garbage downstairs. Talk about stinky! I never thought it could get that smelly. So I realized everything is trial and error. Now I buy large packs of cheap wipes and I wipe the poop up and put it in the toilet right away. Since they go every 15 minutes or so I try to use the wipes twice, if they aren’t to messy. (I know, gross) :02:
Needless to say, I wrote a lot of other stuff in the last message. And I don’t even remember half of it. With fibromyalgia I tend to forget a lot. I am always thinking of questions I have I want to google but when I ever get around to it I don’t remember.
But I am happy with my birds. It took a lot of adjusting, and I’m still working at it. It’s just hard when I do have questions that I don’t feel like I’m getting them answered. I can’t understand how some people can have several parrots and work a full time job AND live alone. Like the women on you-tube, she’s actually an inspiration. I like to watch different you-tube video’s too, they really help me a lot.
Is there anyone else on here that is at home with a disability? With birds? What kind of birds?
I can’t believed I typed all this in a short amount of time! It just all came out instead of thinking so hard about what to write. Lol!
I can’t wait to meet all of you. I hope I can learn a lot on here. I have to focus on not doing so much and getting overwhelmed. I tend to either over-do or under-do. Never a balance. I guess that’s why I picked a caique. We have something in common. Lol!
Wheeeew!!! I’m done! :yellow2::whiteblue: I don’t see anything that looks like a caique.

What an insightful introduction! Welcome to the forums. I am so sorry to read of your loss and the challenges of your condition. Birds definitely do keep us humans busy and sometimes keeping busy does us more good than not.

I now have 3 parrots - so they keep me pretty busy! Along with the 5 cats and the 7 pigeons outside. I'll look forward to hearing about your flock and maybe see some pictures of them?

I very much related to your comment about either over doing or under doing things. I personally find that I'm forever trying to work out 'the perfect routine' and that I now realise that I have to be more realistic with how many things I expect myself to do in a day, just because 'i can' doesn't mean 'i must' (that's where I tend to go wrong!)

Anyway - once again - welcome to you and your flock!
There's lots of interesting people, birds, stories, information and advice here, I've found everyone to be super friendly.

I think it's a shame that there aren't more species specific birdies to pick from - there's not one that looks close enough to eclectus parrots either :D

Thank you for the nice response Violet. I just love the Eclectus Parrot. They are so beautiful. When my husband and I were on vacation this past summer we saw a male and female in a stroller. That was something I never seen before. Lol. If it wasn’t for the fact that I am now an official bird mom, I never would have noticed that. Lol!

Are the eclectus birds noisy?

Welcome! This is a great place for everything concerning parrots. I love parakeets and caiques but my African grey is an only bird and king of the house ha! Would love to see pics of your birdies!

Welcome and be welcomed. What are your birdies names? Your caique is gonna keep you on your toes for sure.

Welcome to the forums, enjoyed your wonderful story!

There is nothing like the unconditional love from a companion animal to help with life challenges. I am glad you found us!

Just a tip, learned the hard way. Unless the wipies are designed for toilets, be very careful with disposal. The fibrous types do not dissolve and can clog toilet pipes. Had this happen, bought a "snake" and dredged up several severely mangled old wipies!

Welcome to the forums! I enjoyed your introduction. Sorry for your loss. I love caiques. After my dear budgie died many years ago I once said that if I ever get another parrot, it would be a caique! They are so fun! Yes, birds are lots of work and time consuming but I'm sure you'll find the right balance and make it work:)

My birds names are Sunny and Ava ( the 2 parakeets) and the caique is Ozzie. And yes he does keep me on my toes.
Thank you
Lori
