New behaviour - what does it mean?

So Patrick my senegal is nearly 1 and today did something. New I haven't experienced before.
Would you be able to help me identify what he means?

I was giving him a scratch and he seemed to be enjoying it and then he lowered his wings and made a noise that I can only really describe as whimpering. He stopped doing it now and has gone back to normal, but I don't know what that was about.

Any idea what this is?

Sounds hormonal - is he DNA sexed as male? Either way, depending on where you pet him, you could be signalling that you'd like to mate and he responded in kind. If I hold my conure in a stimulating way, she'll make a "whimper", "squawk", or "gurgle" noise and do small wing flips while lowering herself.

Also be weary of pin feathers when scratching the head, you may have hit a sensitive one.

Without seeing a video, it sounds like the mating dance. Even though he's too young for hormones, they can start the behaviors as a juvenile.

So I've looked it up and I'm pretty confident it's a mating thing.
However he's started doing it in front of the mirror.

Should I leave the mirror or remove it?

I would remove it for the time being, just so that you're not encouraging the behaviour.
