New behaviour I have not seen before :s

Hey all
Its been 4 days of training Jerry (orange winged Amazon) to step up for me and its going great. The past couple of nights I have lay on my bed with him sitting on my chest just talking to him and singing green day which he loves to sing along to.

But after about 10 mins of him sitting there he will start like holding my hand with his beak and kinda licking my fingers and making this little chuntering sound very lightly. Sounds a bit like a high pitched pure.

All at the same time it looks like he is bringing up food. Is he getting anoyed or fed up of being close to me and should I put him back on his purch ? I have never seen him act this way before

Actually, it sounds like he expressing affection. Parrots regurgitate (which they may or may not actually bring up food) to express their love (gross right?) and often try to "preen" their human, like they would another bird. This all sounds like a very good sign Jerry is bonding with you

That's brilliant. I just wasn't to sure as every time I went to pet his head or give him a scratch he would just move out the way and proceed to beaking my hand . I'll continue to sit him him like that every so often now then.

Do be aware, some birds don't particularly like being petted, even if they like you and want to interact in other ways. Kiwi is like that. He doesn't want to be petted, but he sure likes preening his humans or sitting in your lap. He beaks fingers to show how much he loves you As long as it stays a gentle, positive interaction, thats just one way a parrot can express themselves nicely

Thanks a lot kiwibird I'll keep that in mind. He does show me when he wants a good old scratch I'll just make sure he wants to be petted from now on.

The second time round he stayed sat on his purch for the entire time. Didn't have to deal with him trying the fly away So yeah I little progress he was still scared of the water tho lol. I hope he gets to the stage of actually enjoying it soon.

Sometimes it takes a while simply because it's a new experience, but I think he'll learn to enjoy his baths before too long.

This is great!Thanks a bazillion. I wish I found this site YEARS ago. I am learning new stuff every day.

My Smokes must have dug my son then. He would kneel on the floor,in front of her house, and she would run/waddle up to him and grab his hair <it was longer then> and separate the strands. And if he pointed his finger at her..<NO not THAT finger> she would proceed to fight it,bang it with her beak!!
With me,she would sit on my shoulder,grab my hair,pull my glasses off my face,bang her beak on my forhead...gurgle in my ear,then bob her head and proceed to puke on me...ohhhhhh loveeeeee )

Amy will sit on my lap for hours,with her head down and eyes closed letting me skritch her head and neck .
