Hi All,

I need a some help: I've recently bought a yellow parrot - which species I cannot identify. I'm already owned by a yellow-fronted Amazon for the past 5 years. He's my best mate (and he knows it!).

This bright yellow, gorgeous little chap came through an advert in my local paper, cage included, for 140 quid. I was advised he was a 4 month-old baby 'red cap' who was talking. However, when I saw him he looked like a canary doing his best to be a parrot :)

Let me insert a couple of images to see if any forum member cam help me to identify the species.

And beyond that, I need all the help and advice I can get to ensure he is eating healthily and fill his cage with al the good stuff a parrot needs to have a good time when I'm not there.

Any and all help would be really appreciated.

I've got this beautiful little bird and I want to make him happy.

He is so gorgeous !!!!! what lovely coloring WoW
I was browsing the net today, came across a site www.parrot-bird.com
Such an interesting site, so much info, species of birds etc, training etc.
I could go on for hours......
Sure you will make him happy.
Good luck

Hi

not sure if you have found out yet, but it looks like a lutino kakariki. they are a New Zealand grass parrot.

Shane

Wow if you are correct,... way to go Shane! Well picked.
I just got a pair of red Rump Grass parrots and my knowledge base is woeful.
I will be watching this thread with interest.
( I went to google typed in lutino kakariki, then clicked images, and I think Shane has nailed it).

Looks like a parrotlet in shape, bun not in color. Also looks like canary..... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

yep, shane7285, looks right to me. never heard of a kakariki, but they are cute!

Hi Spiritbird

This bird is neither common nor rare. I have seen some when going through forums gaining knowledge on all types of birds.

I have seen them for sale here in pet shops, but its not very often. Lutino ones I have never seen before.

Regards

Shane

I'm guessing here but i'd say that was a canary that was vandelized with a red marker. Mischevious but adorable.....kinda like me.

Blue, you were 'vandalized' by a red marker? That really sounds a bit too personal to reveal on a public forum. Perhaps you should talk it out with a therapist, perhaps a spe******t.

You could always search for one on therapistfinder.com

BlueToast,

I'm guessing you didn't look at the link I provided. It's not a canary, it's a Kakariki grass parrot as I have said before.
