So I just got my IRN today - he or she is 8 weeks old (don't have the DNA tests back yet). I guess thats a little young, but I was very pleased with all of the feedback concerning the breeder. It's all set up in it's new cage, but refuses to climb on the walls of the cage. I moved some of the perches around so it can go from perch to perch though. It's eating some fruits and veggies, drinking, biting toys. I know I shouldn't be discouraged, because it's not even that frightened of me, but it is biting. It doesn't attack me, but if I put a perch in front of it to move it it'll move down to my fingers and bite down onto my finger. Before this guy, I've only had two cockatiels, both very loving. I understand everything is new to him and it takes a while to adjust, I was just hoping someone could tell me that they were in the same boat and now their IRN is sociable and friendly.

Take your time and go slow! You've only had the bird one day, it takes time for them to become comfortable and relaxed in a new environment and with a new person!

We have two IRNs; we got Tiki 8 months ago at about a year and a half, and Pippin at 8 weeks. Pippin wasn't weaned and so was quite dependent on me for the first while, which probably helped, but Tiki came to us with some "issues" and it's been a slow process. She loves DH, but I have had to work with her every day to gain trust and acceptance. She's coming along, slowly but surely, but I know it is going to be a LONG time before she's really "ok" with me....and that's alright. As long as it takes is as long as she'll get... be it months, or years....

Well the baby seems much happier this morning. Whenever he sees me he comes running over to the side of the cage that I'm on. And bobs his head around like there's no tomorrow. But when he's near my fingers he just likes to stretch his beak as far as possible to try and get one. Is he just testing things out? He doesn't seem to be mad or upset? But he just wants to bite them. Do I let him bite me and try not to react? Also the first time he but me it wasn't just a quick bite. He just bit down on my finger and stayed there. The only way I got him off was pushing him onto a different perch. So I don't wanna just let him bite me if I can't get him to stop.
Also - could this be a product of him possibly being weaned too early? He is only 8 weeks old. He is eating fruits, veggies, beans, rice and nuts. But maybe I should be giving him a nightly feeding?
