Hi everyone, I finally got my bird 4 weeks ago. His name is Dougall pronounced doo gall. When I got him at 3 months he was weaned but has since regressed. I am feeding formula along with his chop, small amount of seeds and pellets. Will he tell me when he doesnt want to be fed anymore?

2 weeks ago he started saying Hi then hello and has been saying step up and good boy. I had no idea that he would start talking so soon!! Have you all experienced your bird doing this? At first I thought I was going crazy and hearing things so I started recording him.

His cage is in my bedroom/office so I spend 8 hours a day in the same room plus sleeping. I am worried that it might be too much time, is that possible?

thanks,

melissa

Yes common for greys to regress. Nigel my grey did the same. I just kept feeding him tons of fresh foods and chop throughout the day. He became less interested and he simply stopped. Took a month or so. Key for Nigel was to keep him full on other things. Now he's a real foodie loves almost everything.

Yes! They can start talking that early. Not very common but it happens, Nigel did too. Now he talks all the time, a real treat as I had one grey that I fostered some time ago that never spoke.

Enjoy!!!! Greys are great!!!

PS as long as your grey learns to self entertain spending lots of time in the same room is fine. When they are young they are clingy. Slowly they turn into independent rulers of everyone in the house.

I'd also suggest allowing your bird to sleep in his own room. They need 12 hours give or take. They can overbond and that is a trick to undo. Independence is a good thing as well.

thanks, I will keep trying to get him to like his chop.
Can everyone tell me what their grey likes the best. mine likes the red bell peppers but thats it. I put about a tbl. spoon of seeds mixed in hoping when he is picking out the seeds he tries the chop but its not going great

You are very lucky my grey is 8 months and not talking he's too smart for his own good though. He makes every noise he here's and makes up his own and sometimes I will get a hello. He is being housed next too my blue & gold macaw who speaks exellent I thought that might help him talk.

They discover new foods all the time. Nigel loves corn on the cob (I cook it), beans, granadilla, apples, and especially birdie bread. Rice Krispies are a treat and air popped popcorn is the favorite which he asks for by name.
