Hi,

My mother recently brought home a green cheek conure. He was born November 16, came home with us this past Sunday. He is fully weaned, has been for 1.5 week (approximately).

I undertands that it's a baby and I may be over reacting but I find him extreemely quiet and snuggly. He wants to be on us and snuggle. We don;t hear a peep out of him. When he's hungry, he comes out and eats like a little pig.

I am so not used to babies that I just want to make sure that it's normal that he's quiet, snuggling and sleeping a lot?

I havee 2 Greys, an evil Hahns Macaw, a lovebird and a budgie (all ranging between the age of 10 to 25) so my house is very active and lively and noisy!

Are babies supposed to be quiet like this or should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Elle

Totally normal for a baby in a new surrounding. Take advantage of the quiet and the snuggling time to bond with him. In no time you will have a rambunctious teenager!!!

Thank you, it's reassuring to know. I have no doubt he will fit well with my evil Hahns Macaw, the Grey who thinks he's a cat and the other Grey who thinks he's a duck :) He seems to be a little more aware of his environment today :)

@ goalerjones: I'm not kidding! He's evil! He will charm you with the cutest little voice and make your heart melt until you are close enough that he can attack you at the jugular and laugh with that evil laughter of his when he misses. You can see it in his cute little eyes: Next time, yup, next time you will not get away :)

That is the way I like them to be. They can be silly, they will get as close to you as they can, if you figure out their actions you can find actions that they show you they love you too. They will rub their beak on your cheek and neck, play in your hair. It is sometimes hard to believe that a bird has the love and affection that they do. You can rub them under their wings gently, on their heads, breast, play with their feet. If they trust you they will lay on their back and play with their feet. They can be so sweet..

If your little loved one has been in for a vet check up and the vet has deemed all is well, then I'm sure he's just settling into his new environment. Otherwise, I'd take him in just in case. We've had a member here just recently that lost her cockatiel just after adopting her, and the entire time it was so lovey, cuddly, and quiet. When our birds are sick, as I'm sure you know, they hide their illness well. They often tend to rely on their flock members to keep them safe, so they'll cling to you like made for safety and reassurance.

Personally, I'd be taking him in just in case to keep my mind at ease if you haven't already. If so, enjoy the lovely cuddles! Conures are such great snuggle bugs ;)
