new, and grieving

Hi,
Never posted on a forum for parrots before--but I lost my blue crown conure tonight and needed to share with others who understood the love one could have for a feathered friend.

I have not stopped sobbing for hours- came home to hear from my Hubby that my dog had somehow gotten into the birds room, and the birds cage- and my bird was paralyzed. The Vet x-rayed and said nothing was broken, but she was probably in so much shock that she passed away. My Kiwi loved me and I just feel like if I were there she would not have felt so alone and afriad. I did not get to say good-bye.

The house is so quiet. Around this time she'd love to giggle, get in her cozy on her favorite perch and say night-night to me. Then she'd wake me up bright and early in the morning by whistling and saying Mornin!

How do I get though this? Nothing could ever replace her. I am so angry at my dog right now. And I just feel so guilty that I wasn't home.

RIP, Kiwi. :green:

I am so very sorry for your loss. I lost my pineapple green cheek conure, Rio, to another pet related accident. Belive me, I know how you're feeling. It's awful, but with time the pain in your heart will lessen. The quiet was the worst for me too. And while of course, River, my current green cheek doesn't "replace" Rio, he definately helped to heal my heart. My thoughts are with you! HUGS!

Thank you.
I am sorry to hear about Rio as well. It is so difficult.

It just all feels like a dream to me right now. I know I will wake up in the morning and want to uncover her cage and see her peeping out at me. Gosh, I was in such a rush for work this morning that I only got her out for a minute or so, then put her back in her cage. Really wish I would have gotten to spend time with her.

Awwww, that is just heartbreaking :( I'm so extremely sorry for your loss. Reinforces to me just how valuable our little fids are, and how much we need them. Thinking about you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss :( Just know that while you had Kiwi, she was loved (and always will be!) and I'm sure she knew that and was happy. You'll never forget her, but time is healing. Try not to be angry at your dog, he did was comes naturally. In fact you might feel better if you gave your puppy a hug.

Best of luck to you. You're in my thoughts.

Thank you.

This is so sad. (I also had a bird named Kiwi- parakeet- who died unexpectedly before I got to say goodbye) I know how you feel. </3 & I'm so sorry she had to go that way. It's hard when a pet dies, it's even harder when they die before their time, I mean their lives are so short already :'C
My condolences go out to you. I'm not overly religious or anything, but just always remember that she's with God now, & I know you will eventually find it in your heart to forgive your pup. *hugs*

I'm so sorry to hear this.. I know how you feel, as I lost my Quaker, Shrek, not long ago... A wild rat had come into the house, and injured my little bird so badly, he had to be put down. The space at the bottom of the cage must have been just big enough for a rat to crawl through. I also found rat poo in the cage...

The injuries could not have been caused by anything else, but bites...

I'm still grieving over Shrek, but just over 2 weeks ago, I got a baby Alexandrine, which really helped me... It was so difficult to walk into the office with no one to greet me, and Max is now just over 6 weeks old, beginning to fly, and new milestones every day.

One day I'll get another Quaker - Shrek really was a character.

so so sorry for your loss , but I know the feelings as well as have experienced this, you won't ever forget your wee Kiwi and in time the nice memories overtake the bad and when you find another bird who brings you pleasure you'll always have a special place in your heart for your gorgeous wee friend

I'm so sorry. Losing a bird is something that only another bird lover can really understand. I've lost several in my life, and it never gets easier. I recently lost a beloved Lovebird, and she took a piece of my heart that will never be replaced.
