Red-Crowned Amazon
Hello everyone. As the title says Im new here and a first time bird owner. I just recently adopted a Red Mexican Amazon named Max/Maxzilla (we are unsure if male or female, s/he has never been tested. We just say him and call him Max.) We got him from a couple no longer able to keep him, he is 7 years old.

Ive never owned or even really been around birds before, so Ill probably ask a lot of silly questions.

I also have a dog, hedgehog, and fish, and grew up around various animals. I hope one day to have a ranch with various animals; home just isnt home unless theres furry/feathered/scaley companions. :)

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new best friend:)

Welcome to the forum. There are lot of amazon owners with plenty of tips and advice. Just remember there are no stupid questions so ask all you want.

Thank you for adopting btw.

Thank you everyone!

Im located in NW Florida. Ive done some research and continue to do so, I started looking up the species before I got him to make sure he wouldnt be too much for me to handle; plus when I get a new companion I like to know all I can to make them happy and healthy.
I havent made an appt yet, my usual vet doesnt take exotic animals so Ive been looking around to find the best I can for him. Though I am determined to have him at the vet within the week.

I read that he could live 50, even 60 years, and Im very much looking forward to spending my whole life with him. :)

Welcome. No question is stuiped on here, we are here to learn . this forum is the best . We arent all talk. Look at some threads and you'll know the we LOVE to joke around with each over .

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for giving an older amazon a new home. Several good Avian Vets in the Panhandle area. I live South side of Tampa Bay, so not too far away. I'm sure you'll have many questions after reading though some of the older threads in the amazon section, Ask away. Hope to see you around , don't forget !!! we love pictures and stories about your new buddy.

Welcome and good luck. From my own experience parrots need little bit hard work to make them happy, but after all they are so much fun:)
