Hello everyone, I recently just adopted a bonded pair of 10yr old yellow-naped Amazons. I have had hundreds maybe thousands of birds before as my family works with a raise and release wild bird group to keep wild population s going strong. Well we decided instead of raising em an loving them it was time to get ones we could keep forever. An that's where Elvis and Priscilla came in. The woman we got them from spoke of them like they were wild demons, who were mean as spitfire, but after raising so many birds I was ready for them. Besides being a little fearful as they have really never been touched by humans they are sweet as honey. We are working on trust issues and perch training, but they already eat from my hand and allow me to pet their feet and beaks. I'd say they are as far from demons as an Amazy could get. Well I look forward to hearing great advice an stories from you all and even sharing a few myself. Ttfn Ms. Jessica :greenyellow:

Welcome to our forum family! It sounds like you're doing great with Elvis and Priscilla already. Share some pictures when you have time. :)

So i will get some pics up soon, Its a little busy around here during the week as i work at an elementary school. I'll try to get them up this weekend. I had a wonderful experiance with Elvis today though. He was watching me from his cage to i went over and started strokeing his beak and singing to him and he fell asleep. =) It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. When i stopped petting him and started walking away he wimpered like our dog and stuck his beak out through the cage and wouldnt stop wimpering till i stroked his beak and sang again. =) Man i love him!

I used to help raise injured birds, but my family has always raised pheasants we raised them 200+ at a time from about 4 hours old till adulthood for release.

Ok, we are now 100% sure on which is the male and which is the female ( i was so excited when i picked them up from the owner i asked 1 million questions but wouldnt u know i forgot to ask the which is which one.) lol but I believe the one on the bottom is male (Elvis) and the other is Priscilla the female. This is how Elvis sits when he is claiming the food dish as his. He is sure the food is his to eat first so he blocks it like this. An like normal she gently pokes at him to see if she can get him to move, which he doesnt until he has stolen the first 3-4 pellets. (always the brown ones.) Its funny at the end of the day there is nothing but green pellets left in the bowl. (its a mix or red, green and brown) Picky picky picky lol.
