5 Cockatiels
This little guy has been at my local pet shop for a few months. I wanted to buy him from the first moment but restrained myself.
I can resist anything but temptation LOL.
I brought him home today. He is currently in quarantine but in visual distance of my other cockatiels.
Named him Cheeky. He sings some unusual songs he must have picked up in the pet shop. I think he is going to make a great addition to my flock.

He Is doing well. He ate a little bit, and has been singing. Sounds like a loud version of a Finch song.
Mostly I am just letting him chill, get use to his new environment.
I don't want to put him through to much stress right away.
He is very interested by my other cockatiels, watches them very closely.

cheekys song

There were two thing that won me over before buying Cheeky. the first was his beautiful coloration. The second was the very unusual song he was singing when I saw him at the pet store.
It has taken me a long time to get the video oriented correctly. It always came out side-ways before.
If anyone out there can guess where he might have picked up this song I would be interested to hear your ideas.

Congrats on Cheeky, what a sweetheart!
Love his song, but can't help with where it could be from.

Sounds like Cheeky maybe learned the song from hearing the outside birds? Good to see he's doing well :).

Re: cheekys song

Hi he is cheeky and I reckon it's a classical piece he's learnt. Falla - love the magician???

Meant in the best possible way, you are being very sensible regarding hygiene and quarantine to protect your flock aren't you? The consequences don't bear thinking about do they?

Oh I love the white faced 'tiels. So pretty. I have a soft spot for cockateils, but sadly my dod thinks they sound like the perfect chew toy so my house is not safe for one.

I kept the new bird "Cheeky" in a separate cage for several weeks. The pet store I bought him from is not a " big box" store or a chain store, it's a mom and pop's store I visit on a regular basis. As I stated in the beginning of this thread I visited him at the pet shop for over a month and he always looked healthy. I know that's looks can be deceiving.
I have bought 2 other cockatiels from them and they all arrived home healthy and have stayed healthy. I have a good deal of trust in this pet shop but even still I did observe a quarantine of several weeks.
It could be that I have mixed some of my existing cockatiels in with him a bit soon but I have a number of reasons for this.
First I bought a brand new nice big cage so there would be plenty of elbow (wing)room.
Second I have two female birds and my two male birds don't want to have anything to do with the females.
Third, one of the females has been for a while picking her feathers. I have had her in to the vet and they could not find a physical reason. I think the reason for this is I had to have her friend (possibly a sibling) put to sleep due to a brain tumor. I have to admit I am quite desperate in her (Pinky's) case. I really want her to develop a friendship with another bird.
I take no offense in your reply I have tried to do my best for my babies (cockatiels).

Thank you for taking my comment in the way it was meant. Hoping Pinky finds a friend and is happy again soon. :)
