So, with it being summer and the HORRENDOUS heat wave we've been experiencing in Maine, I decided to buy some ice creams the other day. One was watermelon popsicles, no sugar added. The other was Good Humor Oreo pops. Needless to say, Skitty was bugging me when I was eating a watermelon popsicle the other day and I decided to let him have a little taste (of course he got more than just a little).

So today, when I had my oreo one (which is obviously an ABSOLUTE no-no) I tried to distract him with a power treat. But that didn't work. He kept flying over to me and I kept shooing him away so I could have my popsicle. Eventually, he got really made and flew onto my chest and I had to shove the ice cream in my mouth and even then, he actually grabbed the popsicle stick and was trying to pull it out of my mouth and he was not happy I was resisting. He actually broke the stick while it was still in my mouth. Bossy little diva he sure is.

Needless to say, I learned my lesson.

Ha Ha! Syd has discovered the honey jar. I had it open on the side and he investigated deciding it was the best thing in the world. I shooed him off but he wasn't having any of it. It took quite a while to distract him enough to get the top back on and the jar back in the cupboard. Now I check where he is - preferably back in his cage - before I get it out, but as soon as he suspects he is shouting for all he's worth.
Trouble is it hasn't made him any sweeter at all!

Enzo my CAG harrases me if i have ice cream, i sometimes i allow her a tiny bit. When its hot as it is the UK for the last few months, I always put ice cubes in her water bowel and she really enjoys it.... im not sure if parrots get brain or beak freeze though.

Your fid sounds awesome btw.

Same with the kiddie-ices (not popsicles?) they are elongated icecubes with all naturall sugars/flavours -> they love em!

My previous one, D., absolutely loved them, there guys here will nibble but she really licked, melted, licked etc.
Never seen anything like beakfreeze; Appie will throw it sometimes (but she flings practically everything when she is done wit it).

Hmmm I like the icecubes in water idea! :)
Will try that with the macaw (the greys have drinkingbottles).

What is it with Conures and actually pulling things out of your mouth? Bowie, my Green Cheek, has absolutely no issue with just reaching right over while I'm chewing and trying to stick his beak right in my mouth...And keep trying after I put him down or shoo him off...He's actually managed to grab food right out of my mouth a few times...

Cytrynka goes crazy each time I eat "homogenized cheese" (kind of strawberry flavoured, milk-based sweet dessert, not sold in the US). It's not suitable for parrots (I don't let her have any milk-based product, nor sugar containg food), so I don't want her to taste it. Unfortunately she's so desperate to get it, and so creative she ends up dipping her beak into it and fly away some place high so she can't be easily captured there. Lessons learned, now she must be caged prior us eating this dessert... I really think Cytrynka and Skitty have lots of common, in terms of their behaviour. He must be a wonderful companion :orange:

Don't let him have any chocolate, but a lick of vanilla ice cream won't hurt a conure.
