Since I am a "new" Eclectus owner I need some advice with her. I have already fell in love with her and we have bonded big time. :) She is 2 yrs. old and I have noticed she is a bit picky with her eating. She will eat bananas, green peppers, apples, spinach leaves, broccoli, grapes, pears. Is that a balanced veggie/fruit diet for her along with some pellets? I have tried pasta, green beans, pods, but she doesn't care for them. Do I keep offering her different things? She loves peanuts but I know that is not good for her all the time. So I don't give them to her often. And also since she is 2 years old she is still teachable right? I mean as far as talking and training? She is talking now but I was wondering if she will still learn new words. I'm sorry for all the questions but Im used to my quaker and conure. :) Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello! I have a female eclectus and she is 4 years old. Of course she will learn new things! They live 30 years or more so yours is still very young. My girl is learning new words every day. Peanuts are really not good because they are high in fat. For a snack, try giving her a more nutritious nut like macadamia or almond. Now, eclectus parrots need lots of vitamin A in their diet, so try as hard as you can to supplement her with orange/red veggies, and anything else with high vitamin A content. BEST thing to give her is sweet potatoes! They LOVE them and will eat them all day. They are very high in vitamin A, so they are a great choice. What I do when I give Roxy something that I know she doesn't really like is cut it into very small pieces. Another thing you can try is to warm things up. What i do is cut everything up, put it into a microwave safe dish, and heat it up. I then test it with my finger until it is warm enough to give her, and the put it into her bowl. She seems to eat more when it's warm. Instead of pasta, try brown rice. And another good thing is cooked beans. In fact, many books say that beans should make up a large part of their diets. Try kidney beans or cannelini beans. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they should not really have too much spinach because of the oaxolic acid in it. You can also give her hardboiled eggs with the shells. Not everyday, but occasionally. The shells will give her the calcium she needs. Other things that i give roxy include: radishes, hot peppers (most birds love HOT peppers!), zuccini, cucumbers, tomatoes, white potatoes, butternut squash, and peas. They also make some really great mixes that you can cook for her. Look up World Cuisines. Make the cooked food and mix it with veggies, or you can make birdie bread and bake veggies into it. Hope all this helps!

If I was you just keep offering different foods, even if she doesn't like them at the moment, they might taste different to her with different seasons and stuff like that.
As above, foods rich in vitamin A are the best. Oranges, Red chilli, capsicum and things like that.
Also try offering Pomegranate, its my birds FAVOURITE Lol, and most other eccy's I know LOVE it. Passion fruit & corn is always a hit too. :)

I had a conure who wouldn't eat orange veggies. I bought baby food carrots and sweet potatoes and mixed them into birdie bread muffins, which she would eat to get her more vitamin A.
