Hi everyone,

I've been in the printing industry for 30 years and with everyone excepting digital e-mail files and no one does any actual printing my job is gone, in order to make up the money I lost I will need to take two jobs, as much as it saddens me I will have to re-home Stewie & Daisy, they don't get along with each other so they can go separately. Any members in the Phila/NJ area & are interested let me know. both are very tame birds.

Changed my mind folks, just had all 3 out playing, I cant part with Stewie & Daisy, going to start to make homemade toys, I have tons of pieces from old toys, a few 2 x 4's & I can get a dozen or more toys made.I just cant do it.

my wife is going to pitch in with making food for them, she's going to try a recipe for birdie bread, a fruit one & a veggie one and my son has offered to buy 2 bags of pellets every week. so Holly's buddies get to stay

:) Your family's willingness to chip in gives me warm fuzzies. Glad all resolved well.

I'm so glad you decided to try to find a way to make it work.

I also have birds on a budget, mostly because I just don't spend money easily, but also because I like to make sure I have money for emergencies, so I make sure to do everything else as inexpensively as possible. Making food and toys can really cut expenses down. There's a produce market near me that's really cheap and has a ton of stuff, so my bill for feeding my entire flock is about $15/mo. That's two amazons, a goffins cockatoo, umbrella cockatoo, budgie and lovebird. I go to the Home Depot "cut and cull" bin, and buy bits of wood that are are cut down into lengths they can't sell full price, or are somehow damaged so they can't be sold for full price. I reuse the wires and hardware from the old toys, so I'm not constantly buying that stuff either. I have some commercially made toys in the house, but not many. My toy budget is $10-$15/mo, because I just get creative with whatever's in the cut and cull bin, and that's that. If you need any help figuring out how to do things for less money than you're currently spending, just post here! Lots of people here will have lots of different ideas!

I am so happy you were able to figure out how to make it work!

Ditto! Sorry about my first post, but I was kind of :eek: when I read your thread! I know how hard you've worked with the three of them and I "thought" all were getting along fine..anyway..happy to hear they are staying and Bravo for your flock doing what they can to help you get thru all of this.

Stewie and Daisy will show you exactly how they feel about not having to find yet another new home. THANK YOU! Its clear they mean the world to you ;)

*Gulp* My heart was in my throat seeing the thread title!

I'm so happy you will find creative ways to keep the trio. They have such a wonderful home, and cockatoos don't re-home easily.

Never an easy decision. Makes me happy to know they are now staying home and the family will join in on the care and get involved. Hang in there, it's all trial and error!

For the most part they do get along, but, Daisy has her moments where she will go after the other two, more of a chasing away, never gets physical, most of the time Daisy will run up and sit on my shoulder and just watches Holly & Stewie.

Holly is very close to Stewie, so I had to take into consideration how she would be if if were to be only her, her and Stewie have been together for almost 5 years now.
