Haven't had any for a few years but looking for a macaw again.
I have been looking for a macaw and I found a site that have quite a few. I cannot figure out if it is a scam. Everything looks legitimate. I have texted back and forth with the number that is listed on the website. They sent me an email with some pictures attached of the bird I was looking at. If anyone can help, that would be great! The website is Joyfulparrotshome.com. Has anyone had any experience with this company?

Did a little looking at the macaws on that site.
Claim to be very young(11 months or less) 700 adoption fee. Looks really suspect to me. Birds that young are generally not given up to rescues and the "adoption" fees are too good to be true.
Too good to be true usually=scam
JMHO

I think macaws take longer to mature and wean than 1 month.

I appreciate it! Such a bummer!

Without even looking at the birds listed, I noticed a lot of spelling/grammatical errors. Very unprofessional. Looking at the photos of the birds, not one is plucked. Highly suspect, as it is very common to see heavily plucked parrots in an adoption setting. I clicked on 5 parrots and each one was less than 1 year old. This website has SCAM in flashing neon lights written all over it. Avoid!

Thank you very much!

I read that large macaws take much longer than a month. Like six months. They stay with parent birds for a year.
My hand raised budgies take two to three months to wean, but they like being babied.

You are welcome. Just clicked on a red eclectus named Toby. Even the most amateur parrot lover knows a red eclectus is female, and yet Toby is classified as a male in 2 separate places by these parrot “experts.” I think that says it all. I would not do business with a place that I could not visit in person. They are preying on people who think they are doing the noble thing by adopting a parrot. No, they are just scamming people out of their money.

It's not at all realistic for someone to be rehoming very young macaws for so little money. Too good to be true IS too good to be true. Bunch of crooks!

In addition to the red flags indicated above, they also appear to have "borrowed" a number of their photos from other sites, they refer to their parrots as "breeds" rather than species, and they're all child-friendly and toilet trained and those last two points are just not going to happen across the board like that!

I'm not sure where you are in the world, but the link below is a list of legitimate parrot rescues as recommended by our members. Even if none of these is close to you, they may be able to put you in touch with one that is. Good luck!!

Scam Scam Scam. They do not even give an address to "come see" the parrots up for adoption. Don't waste your time.
