ok SO up untill recently even though Misty had been laying eggs all month her weight was staying pretty good. I took her out tonight and was shocked to see her breast bone really protruding.

SHe has pellets, seed, egg food stuff, some of her favorite chips - I know not to healthy but I was trying to entice her. I'm boiling an egg as we speak and I'm going to crush some of the shells and add some boiled chicken and greens.

I need ideas to boost her weight! She has always been a small teil but she looks skinnier than ever- even when she got really sick

HELP guys

I had the same problem with Bonnie and Benji! I talked to a few vets (just in case) and I've used this advice on lots of different birds so I'm positive it'll work for you. Get the breeding/egg maintainence food from roudybush, and then get a featherbrite full spectrum light to use in the room with the birds (it's the only one that wont give humans cataracts, so don't buy the aviansun bulb) and you should see a HUGE difference in Misty. She'll pick up weight, lay great eggs with less risk of being egg bound, and her feathers will really show the difference soon. I was skeptical at first (come on... a light and different food will really help?) and I was pleasantly surprised.

thanks i will look for the food - will any real sunlight help or will it do more harm than good unless I get the feather bright one?

Light may help. I did some reading about light and parrots about a year ago, forgot all about it, and Kai definitely is right on about it (also with the night frights). It goes back into imitating the natural environment, if my memory is functioning correctly.

I'll see if I can find those articles...

Kai is 'light' on!!
