1. It's always better to buy a baby that's weaned and eating completely on its own before you bring it home. Any breeder that sells unweaned babies still on formula is frowned upon in this community.

2. The best resource you will have in this circumstance will be your CAV (Certified Avian Vet) who will be able to look at your chick's wings and tell what's going on. If you don't have one, local, you may have to travel some ways to find one.

Weaning babies are clumsy and will lose feathers as they grow and learn to be a bird, he possible broke a blood feather, hence the pain. But the vet will be able to really get a look at him and be able to tell you exactly whats going on and if you should be concerned.

I agree, you should never, ever buy a baby parrot that isn't weaned, and this is exactly why. At 4 months old he should be completely weaned, long ago actually...

It's likely he hasn't yet fledged, meaning he's never learned to fly, so he's way behind schedule, and he likely has a serious nutritional deficiency going on, but the only way you're going to be able to help him is to find a Certified Avian Vet, no matter how far, and get him there for tests to figure out what is going on and how to treat it, before it's too late to help him.

Where in the world to you live friend? I'm assuming that since it's an Alexandrine and you bought it unweaned that you're in the middle-east somewhere, or perhaps India...We might be able to help you find the closest Avian specialist Vet if you let us know...

What exactly is his normal, daily diet since you brought him home? It's not unusual for a baby who is eating on his own during the day to still cry at night for what we call a "comfort feeding" of formula, again your baby should have weaned long ago, but if you're only feeding one comfort-feeding of formula a day then he is also eating on his own during the day, so what exactly is it that you're feeding him?

That's good, I'm so glad you have access to vets, that isn't usually the case...

It's good that you also asked here...That's why I asked you some questions about his normal, daily diet. What does he eat every day, besides the one formula-feeding? And is this the same diet he's been eating since you brought him home 3-4 months ago?

Hello? Any update on your Alex?

I was asking you the questions about his normal, daily diet because I was trying to maybe get to the bottom of why he is malnourished...
