:green: I have a 30yr old amazon that was owned by my in-laws both have passed my mother in-law in july he(Sinbad) is having a hard time with all of the changes the death, moving for the first time in 28, yrs a baby in the house and being in a cage for the past 2yrs. The past 6mths he has been pretty loud need help

Just make sure you give him lots of love and attention. You can't tell him 'just get over it' he's grieving and doesn't understand.

Our vet just placed a Quaker who was 19 and was very attached to his owner, who recently passed. Poor bird plucked its feathers and kept shaking its head. It actually did better at the vet's and is doing really well in a new home. The vet said that the change would do him good because at home he was freaking out about his owner being gone. Maybe a new start--different toys, different location of cage, or new cage might help. I haven't had any experience with this myself. Bless you for trying to help the poor bird!

Welcome to the forum:)

First off, you are going to have to give him plenty of love and attention! He is obviously feeling very distressed at the moment which is only natural after living in the same Home for so many Years!

Give him time to adjust to his new surroundings.. Talk to him constantly and generally try to include him in what you are doing! Offer him treats and make sure he has plenty of toys to keep him amused.

What sort of things are you feeding him? He needs plenty of fruit and Veg, along with a good seed mix and pellets.. more pellets than seed.. No Sunflower seeds! Pasta, brown Rice and Sweet Potato is also good.

Will he step up onto you? If not, try getting him to step onto a stick for now! Does he come out of the Cage? A playstand is a good idea, they like to be out.

He is being extra loud as he is probably a bit frightened at the moment, plus he is seeking your attention.. Just ignore the screaming if you can.. Amazons do have a tendency to be loud though!

I hope this has helped you a bit:)
