Need Advice

Well it has been seven months and I think I have hinted at it in some threads but I have met someone who is very nice to me and I like him a lot, and maybe this one will work out better than the last one (although the last one produced Cricket, hehe)
Now for the advice. This guy I met is about a 40 min drive, matter of fact he is in the next state over (Minzers state). Now that is now problem for me because I do not mind the drive at all. My probem is leaving the bird for Mother dear to take care of every weekend. Friday night after work and coming home Sunday night isnt so bad, but now we are talking about me leaving for work from there Monday morning and staying a weeknight or two everyonce in a while.
Now I have expressed that I dont want to "abandon" my baby, and he clearly knows that I love my bird and she comes first... so now he is talking about buying a cage for his house and bring the bird over on some nights. Now there are a couple things I have concerns about... the drive over and back and the stress that would cause. His two dogs, bird dogs no less :52:
THE BIG ONE... the fact that he is a airbrusher... so there is paintfumes about the house. Now he has a paint shop with HUGE industral vents and fans and what not... but I am still uneasy about it all
Need some out put people
by the way, stay at my place isnt an option, because my single sized bed in a computer room with my parents and brother around isnt my idea of a good time

The thing that concerns me the most is the part with the fumes...

Phoebus is doing an 1 hour drive for the last 4 weekends and loves the car, gets very chatting and squeeking all the way ..

The dogs could be kept in a separate room when Cricket is there and mind you don't leave her alone in the new house first-second day, you will be the only familiar person in the new enviroment..If you introduce her right and softly and if the place is quite I don't think you will stress her..

yeah the fumes and "paint dust" is what bothers me themost too, I could handle the dogs, she wouldnt be left alone with them even if she was in her cage. but those fumes, I just dont know... He is a very good house keeper and what not... and I am sure he would do anything that would hurt the bird when she is there.. but I would be worried about it comeing through the house when she isnt there and effecting her later... i really dont know how to go about this at all

Yeah those fumes, could you explain the situation to you BF, and explain just how much the fumes could be bad for her. He'll maybe be able to put your mind at rest. He seems pretty keen with you and wants to please you, otherwise he wouldn't suggest getting a cage for his place.

And why not, I hope you wouldn't be thinking of doing anything that I wouldn't do. *peta crosses arms and taps foot* well would you huh huh.

I don't know Chi, I have made up a pic of the situation in my mind but I cannot get it very exact...

Is there a room you could keep clean of those fumes and dusts and give it good amounts of fresh air?

Try maybe to find out what exactly those fumes and dusts are and give your vet a call?

Have you been yet to his house?Is the condition exactly such as you describe or your BF has told you about the situation?

yes, I have been over there plenty of times...

I guess my thought are about only being one door that closes the paintshop off to the rest of the shop... and that door is usually open, unless he is accually painting, then its closed with the supper dooper fan on... talking about a fan that makes you feel like your in some sort of wind tunnel

Why don't you build wall in the place of that door and make an other door from the outside part of the place? :04: :18::18::18:

I think that the air purifier idea is the best we came up with until now, we'll have to think about it a bit more....

I always panicked whenever we did any sort of painting in our home because of the birds. They have their own room and it's upstairs.. I was afraid the fumes would rise and run right in and kill em. Luckily the bird room has two huge windows, but in the winter that didn't help.
Like everyone else suggested, I usually set up the air purifier and if I'm feeling very nervous, I set up a baby monitor to carry around with me so I can hear if there is a problem. This is probably silly because.. come on.. our babies aren't exactly quiet about anything.. just made me feel better.
One day I reversed it so that they could hear ME talking and they got really confused!

HAHA, that reminds me... this weekend my mother called about how the bird was doing on her meds and she then put me on speaker and told me to talk to the bird... I guess she was VERY confused

Chi, first, congratulations on the burgeoning relationship with your fabulous beau! Exciting ... and it sounds like he really cares for you and your relationship with Cricket. That is important.

Mojo loves to travel ... he talks and carries on when we are on the road together. I think Cricket might find she enjoys being a well travelled birdie!

As far as the pooches are concerned I think that you will find that Cricket can have her safe space (with the dogs confined), then switch and let the dogs have roaming abilities with Cricket confined. (I have canine, feline and birdie animals and it really isn't too difficult to separate the species as necessary). (You might find, too, that the dogs --bird dogs as they are-- might hold a higher level of respect for Cricket ... as Cricket may cop an attitude with them to put them in their place ... where as birds in the wild being pursued by birdie dogs, tend to high-tail it in the opposite direction ... sort of different dynamics going on).

My biggest concern would be the paint fumes. But, I think if the door could be closed at all times while Cricket is there and an air filtration system in place in Crickets room, that that should mitigate the problem and worry.

I think it is fantastic that your bf has welcomed Cricket to come with a new cage to his home. He obviously cares about you and what *you* care about.

An air purifier should help, When your there, can you smell any paint smells?

Also when just painting around the home, try adding some vanilla essence in the paint, takes the smells right away.

well this isnt house paint this is air brushing cant add anything to it

but no you cant smell it at all, not even in the paint shop its self

I would have thought the air purifier would be plenty to keep things safe for Cricket. Are you still seeing the vet, or could you give her a ring and ask her. She should be able to say on way or another. Just to put your mind at ease.

Sorry should have said the vanilla is only for house painting, definately wouldn't work for anything else.
