Ok, so we have had Tiki for a little over two months now and so far she's been great. We used to have her cage upstairs in the landing, since the cage was so big and the space was kind of useless anyway. She would always sleep on her rope perch in the back right corner of her cage. She would also be perfectly fine for the most part when she was in it. We've recently moved her cage downstairs to be closer to the family. Now, she's miserable in her cage. She is sitting on her perch in front of her food bowls or clinging to the front of the cage. I ordered some new toys, although she has 4 in there right now, but I thought maybe she's bored with them, but we've also noticed she's sleeping clinging to the front of the cage. She won't go in the corner she used to sleep in, and I'm just afraid she's not getting enough sleep since she's on the front of the cage. What should I do? Should we move her back? She's out of her cage quite a bit during the day, so she's definitely not cooped up. I just don't want her to get too stressed out if she's not happy with where her cage is.

I have a couple of questions. When the cage was in the landing was it situated in a corner or was it open? Is the placement downstairs providing the same type of area as it was when it was in the landing? I ask this because my Coby likes his sleep corner cozied into a corner or covered. If it's not then he doesn't sleep well. If Tiki's sleep corner had previously been situated in a corner type area that would make her feel secure and if it is no longer in that type of placement then putting a cover over her sleep corner of the cage could help to make her more comfortable sleeping in her normal sleep corner. I hope that all made sense. :)

What is different behind where the cage was & where it is now? If it was against a wall & it is not here...or vise-verse, that could be your problem and you are just going to have to see if she accepts it.....because the cage was moved, to her, things are all different...give her time to adjust & get used to it.....as long as she is not refusing to go in her cage, she'll probably be OK when she gets used to the new surroundings.....

A lot of people who like to do frequent re-arranging of furniture don't realize that that really upsets some birds.....mine accept most of what I do...if they don't like my changes, I usually find them sleeping on my headboard in the morning.....all of mine, except my p'let, can let themselves out of their cages if they want to, unless I lock them in.....

Sorry Bird Mom, didn't mean to ask your questions again, guess I was typing while you were posting.....

Thank you both for replying! In both cases, she was/is in a corner, or at least where she sleeps is. We did have to rearrange her cage to where her sleep corner is now in the opposite corner, so maybe that has something to do with it. I guess I'll have to see if she adjusts....if she doesn't, should we move her back or would that be too stressful? I just don't want to stress her out too much, and it also seems like she is molting, so I'm sure that doesn't help. We do cover her cage every night. Hopefully after we get some new toys, she'll be more comfortable in her cage. I just don't want her to stress out too much and have a lack of sleep also. Thanks again!

Poor baby. I would get something to write on, and stare at the cage and surroundings with the whole family. List everything each person can think of that is different now about the inside of cage, outside of cage, walls, lighting, temperature, noise levels throughout the day, activities all day and night, air/heat ducts, drafts, colors, windows, etc.

I'm wondering if there is too much or too little stimulation for her from the new placement (from people or environmental). Pritti gets freaked out if he goes in his vacation cage and can't find his fuzzy yellow buddy and the metal mirror on a chain that he pulls over to sandwich himself between the two for sleeping. He'll just go to the natural upper left corner perch, and if the items aren't there, uh oh, no one is going to sleep that night til it is set up right, lol.

I would minimally try to set up the inside of cage exactly as Tiki is used to it. Cornering it the way it was before would be ideal for now.

Was there a specific reason you originaly had Tiki upstairs in that spot other than it was useless space? I.E. did you think it was an ideal place for Tiki for a certain reason. If so, that reason probably still makes sense. What made you decide to move her downstairs at this time?
