Parrots
Indian Ringnecks green female and blue male
Every one says potatoes are bad for parrots but in my area (Iraq) thereā€™s no sweet potatoes. I try to give m my IRNs a good diet of seeds and fresh foods. But when I was weaning my recent ringneck I made a mixture of mashed potatoes and dates and he ate some of it. I donā€™t want to say itā€™s a regular thing because I donā€™t feed them potatoes often but is it ok to give it occasionally?

If the mashed potatoes is just a weaning food or occasional food, itā€™s probably ok. Itā€™s not the greatest but not the end of the world either. Kind of like giving a treat of banana. That has lots of fruit sugar and carbs but if you need to get food into the bird itā€™s ok in a pinch. (Like a bribe to get medication into the bird.)

P.s. your photo of your blue ringneck Cricket surrounded by the lucky eyes is a beautiful visual arrangement! Is he wearing a silver bangle on his neck? So very pretty.

Thank you for reassuring me! And that bangle is my gold earring he got his head stuck into it while playing on my shoulder, easily took it off my ear but he liked wearing it so I took a pic to capture to the memory!

Is your ringneck blue or green? Or do you have two, an older green one and a young blue one?

I have always liked those charms against the evil eye. They are almost the same color as mine which is astonishing because I thought in the Middle East most people have very dark eyes. Is the blue color supposed to be more magical?

I have an older green female ringneck durra (precious stone translated) (turning 2 in August!) and I got to handfeed blue cinnamon from the look badr(blue moon) (60 days old today!)
General in the middle east we use those charms to ward off evil eyes. Thereā€™s a story behind the use of a blue eye I just canā€™t remember the details. But there is a saying that a person with space between their teeth and blue eyes is a jinx. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I love Quakers. A green Quaker was my first bird. My dad sold it while I was at school. I still think of her/him dearly. I have yet to find a seller/breeder for quakers in iraq.

Jinn? Good thing I had braces. Although mighty powers would be nice.
