I think I'm going to make a big move...new place, new job, the works. I'm currently living with my sister and she informed me today that she's going to be moving away with her out of town bf. She is also my employee, so I'm losing one of my direct reports and my roomate.

While I was pretty upset about it when she first said something....I wonder if it isn't exactly what I need to spice my life up a bit. I've been back and forth with an ex of mine for the last 5+ years and while it's my own fault it's hindered me from moving on and finding "mr. right."

Also, if I have to move why not do it big!? I have a couple weeks to figure this out and get a job lined up.

Any suggestions?? Where is a great place to live where the cost of living isn't too high compared to the income?

I certainly welcome any suggestions!!

Wow, what a leap. I applaud you for it. I cannot suggest anything useful (being in the UK and all!) but I wish you the very best of luck!

Brave girl!!! I take my hat off to you!

Don't do Jersey...it's WAY too expensive to live here, and the job market...well...it STINKS. Then again, it all depends on what kind of field you're seeking employment in. :)

What about Texas or Georgia?? :D

Well, I'm about to do the exact same thing haha Wanna be roommates in either CA or FL? :p

I'm from TX and don't really wanna go back, but I will if I have to. CA is kind of expensive but it's not too bad since the jobs there pay more to compensate haha

If you can handle the heat, Phoenix is great! There's tons of industry (thus jobs!) and housing is very reasonable. The market here is starting to rebound a bit if you want to buy a home but it's still in the buyers favor. We moved here almost two years ago and love it.

Hmmm...not a fan of heat all year round but dry heat might be alright. Maybe AZ or NC? As far as job I should probably stick with what I know to start at least; business administration.

To me, the only place to move to is Florida. The land of sunshine and fun. No snow, winters are mild usually don't get much colder than in the 30's and that isn't for a long time. Florida's job rate is better than most I think because of the tourist trade.

That's where i moved to.

Missy, good luck with your move in whatever you decide. Just DON'T do the EX thing!!!! IF it didn't work the first time, it's not going to work for the second, third or fourth. Part of the reason I don't re-date when I was out on the market at one point...... :D

I've lived in Florida all my life so far anyway and even after spending a little time in a few other states and even in the Virgin Islands, I still think Florida is paradise or as close as I have come to it.:22:

Good luck with your move. I wish I had it in me to do it. But then i'b be looking to move countries :)
It's got to be Cali or fl. :)

I'm a California born and raised girl, mostly northern California (kind of close to sf at the moment), but as soon as I'm done with university (December! Wooohoo) I will be moving to southern California...for the climate and family (plus I can grow better palms!) But if it werent California, I would definitely want to move to New Zealand. I just wouldn't be able to import my eventual fid (although I read today they are working towards special pemits to alow some imports, and if thats true then I may move there eventually).

California is an awesome place to live, but imo only by the ocean. Florida would be lovely too for the same reason....but I surf and kayak and spend lots of time out in the great outdoors and by the ocean...so I may be a tad bit bias towards ocean locales ;)

Definitely dont go back to the ex...Mikey is right...there's a reason it didnt work out the first time and I've learned the hard way about how people dont change (only in rare circumstances). Make a positive change for you! What better time to go for it?! I have a good feeling whatever you will choose will be a great choice, and you will be happy. Look at it like a brand new chapter you get to write :) best of luck!

I certainly welcome any suggestions!!

Dallas has much lower housing costs than what I see on those "flip it" TV shows, and one can find even better deals with some hunting.

Me too. We moved to Fla 5 years ago and I love it . I would never move back to Mass.:)

Wish I could come and live in Florida with you folk. Sounds lovely compared to rainy UK. *cries*

Although, heatwave at the moment, but still, mostly rainy UK!

Boston side or the other side? I'm from Newport & still have a home there...came south because of the type of work I was doing, but I'll pass on a FL address.....actually, although I live down here, I don't claim it as home...I figure that home is where I'm sleeping tonight & as long as there's a major airport within 2 hours, I'm good.....a couple of years ago one of Mother Nature's minions decided to take my house & distribute it over several miles...I've had a house burn down, so I don't have much in the way of deep roots...I grew up in a career navy family, was military myself & have pretty much lived out of a suitcase all my life, but will leave your fair state to you & the other Snow Birds, I won't encroach.....
