Forever in my heart. Sunny the Corella
So a few days ago, I decided Sunny no longer was allowed in the hay barn/garage/shed as itā€™s full of expensive and dangerous equipment..that isnā€™t ours! Iā€™ve noticed him sitting on the arm of the long extendable chainsaw a few times thatā€™s up high on a shelf (has a cover over the saw part!!). So chased him out with a broom (Sounds mean but itā€™s for his own safety lol!..you all know I adore him)
Once out, I thought Iā€™d best check the chainsaw thing as Iā€™ve seen him up there a few times now so heā€™s obviously attracted to something on it. Well upon quick inspection I notice the ON/OFF sticker peeled off (typical parrot!), thought that should be okay as I can glue it back on.. then suddenly noticed the electrical strip that leads to the buttons is chewed in half!! OH MY GOD!! This isnā€™t our property (we live as volunteers on a horse farm) and the man only got this chainsaw a few months ago, hardly used it and was so excited when he bought it as had always wanted one!

It cost around $1200 :17:

I was in a state, I donā€™t deal well with that sort of stress and he isnā€™t much of an animal person which makes me feel even worse and worried. His lovely wife reassured me itā€™s okay, not to stress and that accidents happen and itā€™s just a piece of equipment. I was so scared telling him that I left my partner to do it, when I came to apologise I just cried  of course Iā€™ve said Iā€™m going to pay for it being fixed or replaced, whatever it takes. He was so kind about it all and just told me not to worry or get upset etc.

My partner took it into the repair place and weā€™ve been told it can be fixed .. thank god! Itā€™s going to cost me $300 (aud) which is much much better than the cost of buying a new one. Itā€™s still sh*t though as Iā€™m totally skint, not a penny to spare..so Iā€™m borrowing the money from my sister. I will be getting a job soon so all will be fine. My partner has been working hard doing a temporary job until he starts his big new fancy job (with said chainsaw owner lol) so I will pay for it out my own pocket as itā€™s not fair to use his money. Iā€™m pretty devastated, but hey ho.
( in case you wonder, we are sort of backpackers at the moment until we start our sponsorship/residency applications for moving to Aus permanently, hence why Iā€™m not working.. I usually work full time!!)

Naughty naughty Sunny.
Itā€™s not his fault though, heā€™s just being a typical parrot :p But I now will be 100% be chasing him out the shed as not only could it cost me more money but it could cost him his life! I havenā€™t found him in there since that day so hopefully the broom chasing the once has done the trick haha.

How can anyone be mad at this little face though

Oh no, bad Sunny. :( Cockatoos are incessant chewers, they seem to have a talent for exacting the maximum damage for the least bit of energy used. So sorry to know this will cost you significantly, hope you are able to keep him away from the shed and further trouble. Nice to see the owner adopt a reasonable attitude. Hope this won't change!

Oh Hannah! I'm *so* sorry that happened! I bet we can all tell a few hairy tales of things being destroyed by parrots, but it's especially horrendous in a new country and when it's your boss who copped the chomping.

A few years ago, my dear hubby wired our whole house with network cable (so we could have computer games nights). Being a bloke, as he is, he didn't worry too much about the festoons of electric blue wire hanging everywhere. Being a housewife (as I proudly am), I was pretty bent outta shape by the festoons. He won. After all, I enjoyed playing network games too, didn't I?

As the Beaks grew up, they got more and more inquisitive about things in the house. Usually, I was right with them to make sure they didn't get up to much. However, after a while, they were so comfortable and well-behaved, we just used to let them have the run of the place. That's when disaster struck. One day, Barney found out the electric blue stuff was great to chew on. He must've showed Madge how to do it because within a couple of hours they had managed to chomp out quite a few sections of cable, totally destroying our household network!

Not only that, but I also had a super-duper-you-beaut-mega-fantastic doorbell which played classical tunes at random (eg. Toccata and Fugue in Dm, opening bars of Beethoven's 5th symphony etc etc) and which was wired to speakers in the computer room. Our postman loved it!

Well, that is until Barney and Madge turned that cable into confetti as well. Now, all I have is an ordinary 'ding-dong' doorbell and it's just not the same.

Our dear old Galah, Dominic, found that the nice pine timber surrounding our back door was great to chew on. He chomped so much of it away that hubby had to replace the entire architrave!

Y'can't win with parrots. I just wish Sunny's little effort hadn't been so costly for you! :22_yikes:

Yes very true they are definitely talented in just that
I was just so embarrassed and upset by it and made me extremely anxious all day, I knew they would be okay about it as they are very reasonable people and also great friends of ours! But my emotions get the better of me in times of stress.

Sunny has actually been a lot more ā€˜wildā€™ in the past few days, so the good thing about that is he hopefully wonā€™t stick around the farm buildings so much in the daytime now, instead heā€™s off being a wild Corella :)

Indeed it is a bad timed costly accident, but having animals itā€™s the risk we take.. especially parrots! :p
I feel so much better about it now, now I know itā€™s being fixed and all will be okay, I was in a state the day it happened

What was your hubby thinking..DELICIOUS, TEMPTING, BRIGHT, SHINY BLUE WIRE.. that sounds like a parrots dream :p what naughty birds destroying all that, you both must have been devastated.. and the poor postman not getting to hear his favourite doorbell!!
Got to laugh and love the mischief they get up too.. only once itā€™s all paid for or fixed.. until then we cry :D haha

Cockatoos love to destroy stuff. Mines decided to recently last weekend chew up the cable line going to modem, which was on a splitter. I ended up running a direct separate line from pole to the modem. Now get my 400mbps download speeds on my new XB6 modem. In a way she did me a favor as been meaning to run a new line for months, as hated the unnecessary long run plus cable was join together with couplers which means db loss and looking at cable alone baseboard.

Famous last words! You should have run your cable under the floor! They always find it and chomp it up when you least expect it. Y'cannot trust a parrot: they're cunning beyond belief! ;)

I don't know how they find and destroy the most expensive stuff!

Ohhhh Sunny, noooo! Hannah, Iā€™m so sorry your wayward buddy had to chomp such an expensive item. Your patience and love for Sunny is truly inspiring, Iā€™m glad the item can be repaired just sorry it cost you so much stress and money.

Ran new cable in the wall now and direct run to pole. Yep they get to stuff and they destroy it very quickly, before you can catch them.
