Nap time?

This week I’ve noticed Kirby has gotten really loud and chatty if we leave the living room - which we do every day for my toddlers nap. Is it ok to take him to nap with us? There’s a sleeping cage in my room where the toddler naps so I figure it’s fine? Or would a mid day nap mess up his sleeping schedule?

I keep mine up for consistency's sake-- I mean, it will be his choice if he sleeps, but if you dim the lighting in the room where you are napping, I would NOT take him---only if the lighting is standard/open windows/daylight. Anything else could throw him off potentially. Just my opinion.

It’s lunchtime in Brisbane and all the outdoor birds are quiet (except for one squawking crow!) and my indoor birds are likewise all having a midday siesta. Since Lilly the lorikeet is usually such a dynamo for the remainder of the day I generally nap when she does! And they sleep just fine at night

all 3 of my amazons take naps throughout the day
I have never taken them into a dark room for a nap or for a full nights sleep.
We cover them 75% or so for night.
I would think it might mess with there schedule.
I think that it's a good question to ask your vet next time you go in.

Amy naps whenever he feels like it...His house is in the living room with music on all day. Let nature do its thing I say.

Shoot. I must admit, I take a nap when the toddler does and it’s nigh impossible to get her down for one while he’s carrying on. He definitely does seem to take a nap on his own during the day, but the lights are definitely dim in the room she sleeps in as we have a blackout curtain and such.

Naps' are great! Birds rest during the day. All the Amazons that had owned us had taken Naps.

My Amazon did as well but not my Hawkhead. After 4 years I still have never seen her with her eyes closed or beak tucked into her shoulder.

Mine take an afternoon nap. I started caging them for one -two hours during the day. Because when I never caged them during the day, then I had to cuz I was sick they were screaming mess. Now they have the routine down. So maybe getting yours on the same nap routine as you and your baby will work great to!

I wouldn't do it with the lights off and blackout curtain like that--it seems like that is a pretty major alteration to his natural rhythm-- in nature, there would never be darkness like that in the middle of the day.
Could you nap in the light with him and wear a sleep mask yourself so that you are altering his light cycle?

Apparently seeing me frantically post about disrupted nap times and managing to attract the attention of several other amazon owners for advice was enough to satisfy him, as the noisiness during naptime has mysteriously disappeared.

I suspect I had just inadvertently disrupted our usual day schedule due to a deadline for some comic covers. I hadn't realized how much I'd gotten out of sync until this weekend.

Lucy gets cranky when she wants to nap. She is 6 months old so it seems that she needs a lot of sleep. I often catch her yawning during the day A LOT! She gets about 12 or 13 hours of sleep but she is still a tired little girl. When she naps, I leave the lights on and then come in and check on her after about an hour. I would not want her to sleep too long because I want her to sleep at night.
