Fargo- Blue and Gold Macaw
Last week i got a new toy for Fargo
it was in a frog shape, with wooden blocks on the legs and arms, wood body, wood head, and then 2 red wooden eyes/ears
so, Fargo loved it, and destroyed the the legs, then the arms, then today he bit into the head/eyes...
Well, i just took it out of the cage, and was about to thread new blocks through, and i was like, hmm, what are those 2 metal pieces sticking out of its head?
i got them, pulled them out (came out very easy with just using fingers, so Fargo could of pulled them out incredibly quickly)
and, there were 2 nails...
The nails are 3cm long, and VERY sharp and the toy is about 30cm!
WHO IN THE WORLD PUTS SHARP NAILS INTO A BIRD TOY!
Couldnt imagine what would of happened if he pulled the nails out!
Will be calling up tomorrow and complaining!

Very scary!! :( Stupid pet shop!!

That's horrible, I agree call the company ! That is VERY dangerous, glad Fargo didn't figure out the nails yet. If he did he would've choked on it, he would've swallowed it and the sharp end would've teared his throat lining, wouldev cutted him. Always becareful about toys, they are a lot of idiotic people out they're who make pet supplies who know nothing about them. Thank god Fargo didnt get hurt, nails do real damage

thats exactly right birdlover!
i honestly have no idea who thought that nails would be safe in a bird toy! you wouldnt put nails in a babies toy!
My mum is going to call tomorrow and hopefully they will do something about it, maybe a new toy for Fargo ;)
this is just a big pet shop in our town, so its not their product, and i cant remember who the product was by :( but i will ask my mum to check when she goes in, so then i will email that company and tell them what i think! :p

That's scary! What if he'd stabbed himself on one? It sounds like you guys have got it handled. I'd hold on to the toy for evidence (if it goes that far), and complain to everybody! Also, maybe I wouldn't buy toys from that store anymore... D:

i know! :( so glad i looked at it, i honestly didnt even THINK that there would be nails in it!
its not my everyday thought of "i might check Fargos toys, there might be nails sticking out of them -.- " haha

I hope the store removes it off their shelf!

FAINT!!!! I am SO glad you found those nails, Tab! Let's not even think about what "could have" happened.

Good for you for calling the place! They ought to be ashamed of themselves!

I'm literally almost speechless here.

Go to the pet store and tell them about the product. Maybe they can take it off the shelfs ? You don't want another bird owner getting the toy, they might not turn out as lucky

Let us know how you go at the pet shop Tab! :O

Ok ! so mum went into the shop today and they only refunded the money, and then mum called the distributer company, and the man said it is not a toy for Big Birds (even though it is medium/large :p anywho) my mum then stated that it was a toy that should not have been distributed for any birds, even a small bird such as a conure could easily pull out the nails..
The toy is also sold overseas and into USA. My mum told him he needs to remove it from sale as it is extremely dangerous, he said that she could not tell him what to remove.

So there you have it, obviously the company does not care at all that birds can be injured, they just want to make some money!

Mum got a pic of the toy with the label, so will be able to tell you who made it tonight :)

What a dodgy company!!!!!! Obviously all they care about is money!!!

i know!!!! :(
i just love how he said its not for big birds, but even if i had owned a little bird, it would still be incredibly dangerous!

You would think that bird toys would have to be inspected before being sold? :/

Time to contact the Better Business Bureau! I would report the store AND the distributor to them. This is NOT acceptable at all. If you don't know what city/state, you can email any BBB with the names of the companies, and they will tell you the right ones to go to. It's very easy to file BBB complaints online.

Also, someone should put store and distributor names on the photo, and we can share it all over FB for some bad press.

What are the companies?

Thanks Remy, i didnt know anything about BBB!!
Im not sure what the company is called, my mum took a picture of the toy and label today, so when she gets home i will post it on here and will tell you what the label says :)

im positive the label doesnt say 'may contain traces of NAILS' haha

ok! so get this.. ;) mum got home and told me more about the conversation.. APPARENTLY... you ready.. the man didnt know his products had nails in it :p and he said he just gets them from china !
and yet... the company is called 'Aussie Companion Parrot Supplies' and the logo is of a blue and gold macaw... even though these arent for big birds.. ;)

Arghhhh, you would think if you are selling bird toys, you would know what they are made of and if they are bird safe!! That company needs to be shut down. I really hope I haven't brought a product from them! :(
