Just got back from the vet for the first time with Luna! She did surprisingly well. I think her travel cage scared her more then everything else. She was given a clean bill of health and a nail trim. She clung to me like glue and refused to go anywhere near the vet. I guess I should expect that. It was still amusing to see Luna hiding behind my neck and peaking out every few minutes. :)

Now, just a quick question.
1) Is trimming nails painful? Every time a nail was cut Luna would yell out. I assumed their nails were like out and you cant really feel when it's cut. None of them bled so they were not cut too short. :( Do your birds do this when getting trimmed?

Congrats to Luna for behaving, putting on such a brave show.
I would love to have seen her peaking every few minutes, so cute.

Mishka remains calm throughout his vet visit, trimming the nail and clipping the wings.

Thought you would like to see Mishka vet visit

Could it be the sound of the nail being clipped was just starling her?

No, it didn't hurt her. It was probably just some strange person grabbing her toes and the sound of the clippers. I've only had to do Rowdy's once, right when I first got her. To this day she screams every time she sees me cutting my own!

And Pete was so mad at having his done last month, all evening he was checking his toes and nails and chewing on them.

I was at the vet with Merlin today as well. Turns out she still has a little bit of bacteria and is back on meds for that, and more Celebrex for her Bornavirus. She will be on the Celebrex the rest of the winter since I guess the Borna is worst during their breeding season. Sigh. She was a good girl though and even asked the vet and the assistant for head scratches.

Penny also screeches when she gets her nails trimmed. I think she's just reacting to the pressure on the toenail more than anything. I don't think it really hurts, but she definitely doesn't enjoy it.
