Well Mr. Precious has been going on long walks with me since I moved. Wed he was sitting on the concrete wall by the back door & I was standing right next to him. He took off flying! There was no noise or anything to spook him. I gave chase but didn't have shoes on. When I lost sight of him completely I ran home to get shoes. I spent the next hour & a half searching for my baby.

It was full on dark by now so I was going to give up until morning. I went one more block to let neighbors know & ask them to keep an eye out. I sunk on my knees to the sidewalk sobbing hysterically & cried out one last time "Oh Mr. Precious!" He immediately answered with his flock call & within 5 min I was able to pinpoint him & whisk him home.

Although my experience had a happy ending, the terror & horror of losing my little man literally had me suicidal. I will NEVER take him out without a leash again..... Thanks for listening.:green:

I think you were lucky this time round Tammy as he could have took off never to be seen by you again I think your best option if your wanting him outside with you is to have him clipped that way if he does try and take off he will only get a few feet before gliding back to the floor please be more carefull in future as it would be such a shame to loose him.

That is a very common hard lesson to learn for the uninitiated new bird owner. I don't even trust harnesses or feather clips. If I let me birds outside, its in a flight cage or carrier. Way too many birds have chewed through harness leashes or grown in a new flight feather that caused their clip job not to be effective. Or they've decided to fly at just the wrong moment and their harness leash got tangled around a tree branch or low lying power line. I'm glad you got your bird back.

OMG Tammy, I am SO so glad you got him back! Whew!!! I feel your pain you were going through when he took off, it's happened to me way back when with a clipped cockatiel (I recovered her, too).

Give him extra cuddles and kisses. :)

I am glad it had a happy ending. So many times its not. As said above please get your baby clipped. I can only imagine the fear and panic you felt. Just thankful it turned out ok for you both.
