Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum. I have a sun conure named Hotrod that I found on Craiglist not too far from me. The family had a few other pets and just didn't have the time to spend with Hotrod that he needed. (His name was originally Fruit Loop, but I changed it to Hotrod in rememberance of a sun conure I once had that something tragic happened to.) He is a little over a year old, and I have had him about two months. He can say "I love you" and "step up", and he can also make a kissy noise, imitate a cough, imitate my laugh, and of course he loves to talk to me in his own little birdy language. He always has a lot to say! Most mornings I get him up around 6:30, and he hangs out with me until I have to leave for work. He is always very talkative in the mornings and when I get home from work. When I get home, he is always very hyper and happy to see me. A lot of times I'll take him outside and we will walk around and look at things. It's funny, whenever the cows moo, he tries to moo too. And he loves looking at planes, I think that he thinks it's a giant bird or something. After that, he just hangs out with me in the house and eats his dinner. In the evenings when the sun starts going down, Hotrod starts calming down. In the evening/night he is very cuddly and loves to cuddle up in my robe. He also gets grumpy at night if he is out of his cage, all he wants to do is be cuddled up with his momma. Hotrod LOVES fruit; it's his favorite thing. He loves any food though, from pellets to chicken. I am also in the process of training him to use the bathroom on paper when I get him out of his cage. For some reason, he does not go to the bathroom much in his cage. So in the mornings I hold a paper under him and say "do-do" until he goes, and I do the same when I get home and get him out. He is getting very good at it, my goal is to get him to learn the word "do-do" so he can tell me when he has to go. When he goes, I praise him and tell him "Good job, Hotrod, you went do-do!" He loves the attention, and he is learning that we won't do anything once he gets out of his cage until he goes do-do. I love Hotrod so much!
